Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADAM SGIIEID, OF HARRISON, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNOR TO THE DRAPER COMPANY, OF PORTLAND, MAINE.
SPINDLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 580,719, dated April 13, 1897.
Application filed December 22, 1896. Serial No. 616,645. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ADAM SOHEID, a citizen of the United States, residing in Harrison, county of Hudson, and State of New Jersey, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spindles; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
The object of this invention is to provide a spinning-spindle of simple, strong, and durable construction, reliable in operation, and capable of adjusting itself to an unbalanced load.
The invention consists in the detail of construction and the combination of parts, substantially as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, in which Figure 1 represents a front elevation, and Fig. 2 an underneath View, of my improved spinning-spindle and its support, a is the spindle-rail, provided with the vertical hole or opening a, penetrated by the tube 19, which latter contains step and bolster bearing for the whirl-driven spindle c. In the lower portion of the tube is arranged an internally-threaded vertical hole f, adapted to be engaged by the set-screw g, the latter penetrating the central portion of the U-shaped frame or bracket h, the horizontally-projecting flanges h h of which are secured to the under side of the rail by means of the set-screws '1: or in any desired manner.
The lower part of the tube 1) is separated from the central portion of the frame It by means of a metallic washer k and an intermediate elastic washer 76', as clearly shown.
The center of oscillation for the tube 1) lies at its connection with the central portion of the frame it, and the flexibility of said tube, or, better, its yielding movement, can easily be regulated by tightening or loosening the set-screw g, as will be manifest.
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination with the spindle-rail, of a U-shaped frame secured to the under side of the rail, a tube penetrating the rail and pro- ADAM SCHEID. Witnesses:
