Be it known that I, CATHERINE R. WAR- REN, of Richmond, in the county of Henrico and State of Virginia, have invented a new and Improved DiaperProtector, of which the following is a specification.

It is the object of my invention to provide an improved cover or protector for waterproof diapers or di aper-cover: which are coming into more and more extensive use.

The novel features of the invention are as hereinafter specified.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view showing my invention applied to a child. Fig. 2 is a front side View of my invention with the flaps buttoned to-V gether. Fig. 3 is a view of the rear side of the same. Fig. 4 is a view of the inner side of the same spread out flat. Fig. 5 is a similar view of the rubber diaper. Fig. 6 is a section on line 6 6 of Fig. 2. Fig. 7 is a section on line 7 7 of Fig. 4E.

A indicates my improved protector, and B the diaper or diaper -cover proper. These may be4 attached by buttons to an ordinary muslin waist O, as shown in Fig. l, or otherwise supported. The protector A is made of muslin, linen, canibric, or any other preferred or analogous material, preferably su ch as harmonizes in color and quality with the other garments worn by the child. The part B, which may be used as a diaper proper or a cover for an ordinary cloth diaper, is made of rubber cloth or some other thin waterproof material.

Both the protector A and diaper B are approximately fan-shaped, and the diaper is of such dimensions that it is inclosed Within and wholly concealed by the protector A. The latter has free inwardly-projecting portion or lap a around its edge, which constitutes a sort of pocket adapted to receive and cover the edge of the diaper B, as shown in Figs. lC and 7.

The attachment of the diaper B to the protector Ais effected at most points bybuttons b, Fig. et, which are attached to the inner side of the lap a and pass through buttonholes h in the diaper and other holes in the protector. Thus the lap a is held down on the diaper and the edge of the latter kept in place beneath it, yet the diaper may be readily disengaged and detached when required.

At the corners of the protector and diaper and at the lower edge it is less necessary that the buttons should be attached to the lap ci, since the latter is held down by reason of its peculiar construction, or overlapping the diaper B, and in such case the buttons may be attached to the diaper itself.

When the parts A B, thus constructed and connected, are applied to the person of an infant, the narrow portion or lower end a of the same is drawn up between the legs and buttoned to the front side. Thus the protector A effectually conceals the diaper B from view, so that it may be worn without the obtrusiveness which has been the chief objection to its use.

It will be noted that the same buttons which hold the protector and diaper together at that point serve also for securing such extension Ca, and that the same buttons which secure the lapped front edges of the protector together also hold together the right-hand portions of the protector and diaper. Detachable studs may be used at this point in place4 of buttons proper.

By the above-described construction and combination of parts I provide a ,cover and protector of muslin or other preferred material and either trimmed or untrimmed with lace or edging of any sort for a waterproof diaper-cover or diaper proper, whereby the latter is entirely concealed, the appearance of the childs undergarments enhanced without occasioning any discomfort by chang,&c.

The protector keeps the exterior of the diaper B clean and may be itself easily and quickly applied, or detached when soiled and another substituted for it, or the diaper may be conveniently detached as occasion requires.
