Description
UNTTE STATES PATENT Titten.
FRANK DOUGLAS, OF NORWICH, CONNECTICUT.
IMPROVEMENT IN BUTTONS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 53,796, dated April l0, 1866.
To all 'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FRANK DOUGLAS, of Norwich, in the county of New London and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and Improved Button; and vI do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a perspective drawing of the whole button; Fig. 2, a vertical section, with the button cut through the center. Fig. 3 represents the button`when attached to the cloth and buttoned with the cloth cut through the center. n
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts of all the iigures.
The object of my invention is to produce a button that can be attached to clothing and other articles without sewing` or making any place to receive it.
A is the body ot' the button; B, the neck, concaved or grooved to make an easy-wearing surface for the button-hole.
C is a flange-headed screw that is cut down to a sharp point and screws into the neck B ot' the button.
D represents the cloth, through which the screw C is turned to fasten it to the cloth. The button is attached to the cloth by simply turning the sharp-pointed screw C through the cloth l) at the desired place and turning button A down onto it with one hand, while holding the head ot' screw C with the other hand, and thereby fastening button A rmly to the cloth.
With this method of applying buttons to garments any person can apply them without any preparation and without breaking a single thread ot' the cloth. The facility and rlnness with which this button can be attached and the easy manner otl detaching it are the chief points of superiority over other buttons.
I do not claim as my invention the manner of holding' the button to the cloth bya screw; but
Nhat l claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A button secured by pointed screw, substantially as and for the purpose described.
FRANK DOUGLAS.
