GUSTAV SCHLESICKY, OF FRANKFURT-ON-THE-MAIN, GERMANY.
WATCHCAS E.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 499,891, dated June 20, 1893.
Application tiled November 11, 1892. Serial No. 451,613. (No model.) Patented in Germany September 5, 1891, No. 64,566, and
i in Switzerland October 20, 1891, No. 4,237.
To all whom it may concern.- Y
Be it known that I, GUsTAv SOHLESICKY, a subj ect of the German Emperor, and aresident of Frankfort-on-the-Main, Germany, have invented 'new and useful Improvements in Watches, (for which I have secured Letters Patent in Germany, dated September 5, 1891, No. 64,566, and in Switzerland, dated October 20, 1891, No. 4,23%) of which the following is a specication.
The object of my invention is to provide, in a simple and effective manner, for the attachment of articles such as gloves, of Watches, so that the Watch will be conveniently arranged for use, Will present a neat and ornamental i appearance, and can be readily removed'and placed upon another glove when desired.
Although my invention was designed with special reference to gloves, it is not limited to such use, but the same devices may be employed with other articles such as pocketbooks, or hand-bags, or various articles of Wearing apparel.
In carrying my invention into effect, I provide the glove or other article to which the Watch is to be attached, with an aperture, and the Watch is placed inside the glove in line with said aperture so that its face is visible; and in order to secure the parts togetherI provide an external clamping device, the Watchcase and said clamping device having co-operating projections which engage with each other a-nd imite the Whole together.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in Which Figure 1 is a plan view of a Watch attached to a glove or like article, a portion of the external clamping ring being broken away; Fig. 2, a cross-section of the same; and Fig. 3, a cross-section of a modified form of my invention.
A represents a portion of the glove or other article, which is provided With a circular aperture having, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, a strengthening band or ring of metal b secured by stitches around the edge ofthe aperture.
B is the case of the Watch, which may be of any suitable design but which has -upon its face a circular rib a surrounding the dial.
The clamping device consists of a metal ring d preferably of spring metal and provided with a circular rib f adapted to it within the circular rib a of the Watch case, and a Wide clamping flange g, which, when the ring is in position as shown in Fig. 2, sets against the strengthening ring b of the glove A.n The inside of the circular rib aand the outside of the circular rib f are preferably provided, as shown, with encircling threads or projections whereby the clamping ringmay be sprung into place and held there firmly until removed.
As shown in Fig. 2, the Watch case is placed inside the glove with the riby a extending through the aperture, and the clamping ring is then placed over it with the rib f entering the rib a, and is there sprung into place. The clamping ring is preferably provided with a glass or crystal h, through which the face of the Watch may be seen. The Wide flange of the clamping ring, in addition to giving a firm hold upon the glove, covers the parts so as to produce a neat and symmetrical appearance.
In the modification shown in Fig. 3, the metal strengthening ring b at the edges of the aperture is omitted, and the clamping surface of the ring and the corresponding surface of the Watch case are provided With threads or corrugations which bite into the material .and form a secure hold. It is evident that similar devices may be employed to attach other articles than watches to gloves and the like, where this is desired-to be done.
1. The combination with a piece of material or fabric forming a glove or the like and provided With an aperture, of a Watch placed upon one side thereof, and a clamping device on the other side, said Watch and said clamping device having engaging projections Whereby all the parts are held togethensubstantially as set forth.
2. The combination with a piece of material or fabric forming a glove or the like and provided with an aperture, of a Watch placed on one side thereof and having a rib extending through the aperture, and a clamping device on the other side engaging with said rib Whereby all the parts are vheld together, substantially as set forth.
3. The combination with a piece of material IOO or fabric forming a glove or the like and proing a raised circular rib on one face, of an vided with an aperture, of aWatch-case placed open-faced clamping ring adapted to engage on one side thereof and having a circular rib said rib whereby the Watch maybe attached r 5 extending through the aperture, and a glazed to a support of the character described, sub- 5 clamping ring placed on the other side and stantially as set forth.
