-J.' G. GAREIS.
POCKET BOOK SUPPORT.
No. 471,854. Patented Mar. 29.1 92.
W/TNESSES //v VENTOR Mm Y Q M M Z ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN G. GAREIS, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
POCKET-BOOK SUPPORT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 471,854, dated March 29, 1892 Application filed July 8, 1891. Serial No. 398,831. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN G. GAREIS, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Pocket-Book Support, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object ol the invention is to provide a new and improvedpocket-book support, which is simple and durable in construction and designed to conveniently attach the pocket-book to the hand of the owner to prevent it from being snatched or misplaced in stores and other places and at the same time permitting a convenient opening and closing of the book whenever desired.
The invention consists of certain parts and details and combinations of the same, as will be more fully described hereinafter, and then pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure l is a perspective View of the improvement as applied. Fig. 2 is a sectiona side elevation of the improvement.
The improved pocket-book support is provided with a ring A, made of leather or metal or other suitable material, the ring being connccted by a swivel B with the back 0 of the pocket-book, as is plainly illustrated in Fig. 1. The ring A is engaged by a finger of the wearers hand, so that the pocketbook is supported in the hand and can be conveniently turned in any desired direction in the palm of the hand, the swivel B permitting such movement. Thus by turning the pocket-book in the hand the wearer is enabled to conveniently open or close the pocket-book without detaching it from the finger.
As illustrated in detail in Fig. 2, the swivel Bis formed with a pin E, passing through the metallic plate F, held on the inside of the back of the pocket-book. The shank of the pin is preferably made in two parts or tongues united at one end to form a head E, the other or free ends being clinched on the plate F, as shown in Fig. 2. The swivel B is also provided with a button H, carrying in its center an eyelet H, through which passes loosely the pin E, the head of which rests on the outer end of the eyelet. The ring A passes through an aperture in the button H and is secured thereon by the eyelet H, so that the ring, with the button H, turns loosely in the pin E.
In order to fit the ring A on difierent-sized fingers, it is made adjustable and split, the ends being formed with sleeves or collars I, through which passes the other or opposite end of the ring. By adjusting the sleeves or collars I the size of the'ring may be increased or diminished to fitthe wearers fingers. It
will be seen that by this construction above described the eyelet serves to fasten the ring in placeon the button and at the same time forms a passage-way for the pin to permit the button to turn.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent In a pocket-book support, the combination, with a headed pin adapted to be secured to the pocket-book, of a button, a central eyelet held in the said button and through which passes the said pin, a split ring secured on the said button bythe said eyelet, and a loop held on the ends of the ring and through each of which passes the end carrying the other loop, substantially as shown and described.
