H. B. ROOKHILL. HOLDER FOR BASINS, 8L0.
NO. 461,715. Patented May 5,1891.
WITNESSES:
ATTORNEY.
UNITED STATES PATENT @rrrcn.
HIRAM B. ROOKHILL, OE PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
HOLDER FOR BASINS, 84C.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 451,715, dated May 5., 1891.
Application filed June 30, 1890. Serial No. 357,200. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HIRAM B. ROCKHILL, a citizen of the United States, residingin the city and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Holders for Basins, &c., which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to improvements in holders for basins, &c., and has for its object a device that can be readily attached to a window-sill and adapted to hold a basin, bucket, or other receptacle for water; and for this purpose it consists, first, of an adjustable clamping device, and, second, of the combination of parts hereinafter described.
Figure 1 represents a perspective View of a device embodying my invention. Fig. 2 represents a central longitudinal section thereof.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the two figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates a clamping device consisting of two castings or pieces B and 0 adapted to move one on the other. The piece B is formed with depending jaws D, adapted to contact with one side of a window-sill. Connected with the said piece B, and on one end thereof, is a depending guiding-piece E, having openings F G in opposite sides, one of said openings, as F, being squared or angular, so as to hold the squared end of a clamping-bolt G and prevent the rotation of the same.
The casting or piece 0 is composed of a main portion H, and projecting portions J J, the portion H having a depending ear K, with an opening L for the clamping-bolt G, and the projection J having jaws M, which contact with the side of the sill opposite fromthat in contact with the jaws D of the piece B. The portion H has a flat or plane surface on its lower side, so as to be permitted to readily move upon the upper plane portion of the guide E, and the upper surfaces of the projecting portions J J are placed so as to be in contact with the under surface of the casting B. A shoulder N on the upper face of the part 0 is adapted to abut against the edge of the piece 13 and limit the inward movement of the said part. The inner sides of the projections J J are in contact with the for preventing the rattling of the parts when the same are removed from the sill. To the piece 13 are secured the two ends of a hoop or ring P, which serves as a support for a bucket or basin adapted to contain water for cleansing the window. The ring P is preferably secured to the piece 13 by having the straight inner portion R of its end 8 bent as an S, and inserted in the openings T in the same, the said part B bearing against a grooved or recessed portion thereof, whereby a spreading of the ring is prevented.
It will be seen that the device can be readily attached to windows having sills of different sizes by means of the adjustable piece 0 and the clamping bolt and nut, and that a basin or bucket for holding water may be held in the ring P at a convenient distance of the window on either the inner or the outer side thereof.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a device for the purpose mentioned, the combination of a casting or piece having jaws and a guiding-piece with openings in opposite sides, a second casting with projections having jaws and an ear having an opening therein, a clamping bolt and nut, and a ring, the latter being secured to said firstmentioned casting, substantially as described.
2. In a device for the purpose mentioned, the combination of two adjustable castings or pieces having jaws adapted to embrace a window-sill, a clamping bolt and nut, and a ring secured to one of said castings and adapted to hold a basin, the said castings be- .ing guided on each other in their adjustment,
substantially as described.
3. In a device for the purpose mentioned, the combination of a clamping device having a piece with openings and grooves, and a ring having straight portions with bent ends, said ends entering said openings, and said straight IOC portions bearing against the walls of said grooves, substantially as and for the purpose described.
4:. A device for the purpose mentioned, consisting of two castings, one of which is provided with depending jaws and a depending guiding-piece, the latter having an angular opening therein, the other casting having depending jaws and a depending ear, thelatter with an opening, a bolt adapted to fit in said angular opening and opening in depending ear, a clamping-nut on said bolt, and ring secured to the first-named casting, said parts being combined substantially as described.
5. A device for the purpose named, 0011-
