IMPROVED CAR-SPRING FASTENER.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 44.033, dated August 30, 1861.

Be it known that I, JOHN W. WOOD, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and improved mode of constructing and fastening the boxes and covers of railroad-car springs; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view; Fig. 2, a longitudinal elevation and Fig. 3, a cross sec tion.
The nature of my invention consists in the peculiar construction of and the manner offastening together the boxes and covers of railroad-car springs.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
I construct my spring box A of the usual material and forms with two or more rectangular taper holes, B, on opposite sides thereof, and my covers with two or more lugs, D, (according to the number of holes in the box,) having taper slots E in them. I fasten the two together by means of the Wedge F, which JOHN W. WOOD.
