PATENT OFFICE.
DAVID B CHAPMAN or AURORA, ILLINOIs.
FOLDING Hones,
SPECIPICATIQN forming part of Letters Patent No. 393,210, dated November 20, 1888.
Application filed August 2, less. Serial No. 281,783: (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, DAVID B. CHAPMAN, a
citizen of the United States of America, residing at Aurora, in the county of Kane and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and use- ;ful Improvements inFolding Horses; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full,
clear, and exact description of the invention,
such as will enable others skilled in the art to specification.
which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a My invention relates to certain new and useful improve'mentsin folding horse's, which are especially adapted for paper-hangers use or tother analogous purposes, the object thereof being to provide a portable horse or support which can be folded to occupy but small space;
and it consist-s in the construction and combination of the parts, as will be hereinafter fully set forth, andspecificallypointed out in the claim.
f In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a folding horse constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 is an end view showing the parts folded.
A and A refer to end pieces, which consist 'of cross-bars a and a,'which are rigidly connected to'each other at their centers and prowided at their upper ends with cross-pieces B,
and at their. lower ends with cross-pieces C.- --.These end frames are provided at the bottom of the legs a and a with projecting pins (Z d,
which are adapted to engage with the floor and hold the legs steady.
,The upper cross-piece, B, is connected to the opposite lower cross-piece, O, by ointed o brace-bars D; which are pivoted centrally to each other. These brace-bars are made in part of this to the long sections and also hinged to theuppericross-bars.
two sections, theshort sections D being hinged The long sections of the bracebars are hinged to the lower cross-bars,-G, as 5 shown. To accomplish this arrangement it is necessary to secure the hinges to one side of the center of the cross-pieces B and O to permit the parts'to fold in a vertical position, as shown in Fig. 2;
In practice the paper-hangers board is placed upon the upper edges of the cross-pieces B,and when not in use the parts can be folded so as to occupy but little vertical space, and when folded the end sections will be near each other, and the arm of a person can be placed around the center portion of the end sections,'so as to easily carry the horse I am aware thatprior to my invention it has been proposed to provide folding horses the partsf which have been jointed together so as to fold upon each other, and I do not claim the folding horse, broadly; but
' What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in Y presence of two witnessesa-l DAVID B. CHAPMAN. W'itnesses:
J onn ,LAOKNER, A. GLZ-MCDQLE.
