[57] ABSTRACT A toy device. This device includes a hand-launching clement having an elevatible sleeve freely carried upon a convoluted member which when the sleeve is raised will cause a plastic toy vehicle to rotate and become air borne.
1 Claim, 2 Drawing Figures PMENIEB Jill 1 2 FLYING SAUCER TOY This invention relates to toys and more particularly to a toy that may take flight.
It is therefore the primary purpose of this invention to provide a flying saucer toy which will include a handheld stick-like element having a continuous convoluted surface which will enable the plastic member of saucer shaped configuration to rotate and become airborne as it is elevated on the stick component of the device.
Another object of this invention is to provide a toy of the type described which will have handle grip means on one end of the stick portion for holding the device in the hand of the user, and a sleeve member is freely carried upon the convoluted stick member and is held between the fingers of the other hand of the user while the user elevates the sleeve, the sleeve being in abuttment with the under side of the saucer member will cause the saucer member to rotate at high speed as it is being lifted away from the stick, and thus the saucer member will become airborne.
Still another object of this invention is to provide a toy of the type described which will have openings along the flanged outer periphery, the openings providtoy of the type described which when rotated and lifted away from the stick portion will have the-necessary aerodynamic qualities that will enable it to soar as it rotates.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a flying saucer toy which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will become readily evident upon a study of the following specification together with the accompanying drawing wherein;
FIG. 1 is a vertical view of the present invention showing the hands of the user in phantom lines; the device being shownin elevation; and
FIG. 2 shows the device in operation.
According to this invention, a flying saucer toy 10 is shown including a stock 11 of plastic or wood material having continuous convolutions 12 along its length and a handle 13 is fixedly secured to one end of stick 11 so as to be grasped by the users hand 14. The users other hand 15 engages the sleeve 16 which is freely and slideably carried upon stick 11. The under side 17 of the hollow plastic saucer vehicle 18 rests on the upper extremity of the sleeve 16 prior to launching the vehicle 18. The opening 19 through the center of vehicle 18 engages with the convolutions 12 in order that the vehicle 18 will rotate when it is lifted by means of the sleeve 16. The outer peripheral flange 20 of annular configuration is provided with a plurality'of equally spaced apart openings 21 which when vehicle 18 is rotated by means of the convolutions 12 the openings 21 will cause air to be passed therethrough and will emit a humming, whistling or other sound desired, depending upon the shape of the openings.
It shall be noted that the flange 20 structure may be modified so as to carry components that will emit a particular sound.
In use, sleeve 16 when raised by hand 15 will cause vehicle l8 to rotate at high speed as it is being elevated away from the stick l1 and when vehicle 18 becomes airborne it will soar in flight while emitting sound caused by air passing through the openings 21 of the flange 20.
What I now claim is:
1. In an amusement device including a convoluted launching stick, a handle carried at one end of said stick to enable said stick to be gripped manually by one hand of an operator, a sleeve slidable axially on said stick and capable of being gripped manually by the other hand of the operator, an airborne vehicle engageable with said convoluted launching stick and displaceable axially thereon when said sleeve is displaced away from saix handle, said axial displacement of said sleeve causing said vehicle to rotate about said stick as it advances axially, the improvement wherein said vehicle includes raised upper and lower dome surfaces forming a circular junction therebetween, an annular peripheral flange extending outwardly from said vehicle at said junction, and a plurality of circumferentially spaced openings in said flange with said openings extending in a direction parallel to the rotational axis of said vehicle for emitting a sound upon rotation of said vehicle and displacement through the air.
