M. PERRY.
BARBERS APRON.
Patented Oct. 11, 1887. FIG.1.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE...
MANOEL PERRY, OF CHELSEA, MASSACHUSETTS.
BARBERS APRON.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 371,353, dated October 11, 1887.
Application tiled October 7, 1856.
T0 (LZZ whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that l, DIANOEL PERRY, a citizen of Portugal, residing at Chelsea. in the county of Suffolk and State of hlassachusctts, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Barbers Aprons, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a yoke fo attachment to barbcrs apronsthat can be readily adjusted to the wearers neck and prevent hairs, water. or other fluids from passing down the persons neck, the yoke being also easily and readily attached to or detached from an ordinary apron.
The invention consists of a yoke of indiarubber or other suitable waterproof material, provided with a st rap and buckle for securing it around a person's neck, and also a series of button-holes, through which buttons attached to an apron are passed, thereby securing the yoke and apron together.
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a yoke embodying my invention, with a portion of an apron attached thereto as when worn. Fig. 2 represents the yoke laid out flat.
A represents the yoke, and B the apron. To one end of the yoke is secured a strap, 0, and some little distance from the other end of the yoke is secured a buckle, D. The object of having the buckle thus set back is to allow the ends of the yoke to overlap when worn, as shown in Fig. 1, so that it can be adjusted to the neck of the person to which it is applied.
E E are button-holes cut in the yoke near Serial No. 215,604. (No modtl.)
its edge, through which buttons F F, attached to the apron B, are passed, thereby securing the apron and yoke together.
It will be seen that when the apron, with its yoke, is applied to a person the yoke can be readily adjusted around his neck, so as, if he is having his hair cut, to prevent any hair as it is cut off from passing down his neck or, if he is being shampooed, prevent any water or o'her fluid from running down, or, if being shaved, prevent the lather from passing down his neck.
The object of having the yoke detachable I from the apron is, that when the latter becomes soiled it can readily be removed for washing and a clean apron then be substituted.
Instead of a strap and buckle, any other suitable fastening device may be employed, and instead of buttons for attaching the apron to the yoke, hooks and eyes or any suitable means may be employed.
\Vhat I claim as my invention is- A water-proofyoke for barbers aprons, provided with asuitable fastening device and button holes, whereby an apron can be readily attached thereto or detached therefrom, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MANOEL PERRY.
