Abstract
General consideration of the present invention is to provide a device which would prevent the unauthorized opening of an automobile trunk lock without the use of a key. The device is fashioned to conform to various automobile trunk lock designs. The device offers protection by incasing the vulnerable areas of the lock, which if disturbed could result in the trunk''s opening thus defeating the lock''s purpose. The device is readily and economically fabricated from sturdy and durable material. The device requires no special care and no special knowledge for use by the user.

Wolfe [57] ABSTRACT 1 Claim, 3 Drawing Figures AUTOMOBILE TRUNK LOCK MECHANISM (ANTI-THEFT DEVICE) General objects of the present invention are to provide protection to the present automobile trunk lock mechanism utilizing the present lock apparatus; developing a device which is of simple construction and readily and economically fabricated and assembled on a mass production basis; is sturdy and durable, being capable of a long service life of severe usage; can be employed in all trunk locks offering protection to all excessable points where forced entry may be attained. The device can be manufactured to fit the various models of automobile trunk locks. The ease of installation of this device permits ready conversion to make it available to all types of automobiles who have presently locks which offer no protection from forced entry. The objects of the applicants invention are:
1. To provide a device which will offer protection to points on the lock mechanism which will help to jar and otherwise defeat the locks purpose when entry is desired without the use of a key.
2. To provide a device which is easily patterned to fit in many automobiles utilizing-the present turnk lock apparatus.
3. Another object of the present invention is that it involves no special care and no special knowledge for use by the user.
4. It is our aim to provide a device that is constructed of durable material; a minimal of parts without the complication of assembly; without the need to alter many types of automobile trunk lock systems.
For a fuller understanding of the nature and objects of the invention reference should be had to the following detailed descriptions taken in connection with the accompanying drawings in which:- 1
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a trunk lock as it ma be incorporated in many automobile trunks in different variations.
FIG. 2 is a perspective view 'of the sleeve which surrounds the stem.
FlG. 3 is an alternate form of a sleeve.
in FIG. 1 numeral 1 refers to the lock. It is in and around this area where forced entry is attained, by whatever means, causing distrubance of surrounding area 2.
Tumbler housing 3 connects to the lock stem 5, this further continues and turns in the latch opening 6 in the latch housing 7. Sleeve 4 completely surrounds lock stem 5 and the latch opening 6 and all other vulnerable points which might fall herein. It is in this way that protection can be given to the trunk lock to prevent unwarranted opening of locked trunk without a key.
The invention accordingly comprises the features of construction, combination of elements and arrangement of parts, which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter set forth and the scopeof the invention will be indicated in the claims.
It will thus be seen that the objects set forth previously, among those made apparent from the preceding description, are efficiently attained and since certain changes may be made in the previous construction and different embodiments of the invention could be made without departing from the scope thereof it is intended that all matter contained in the previous description or shown in the accompanying drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
It is also to be understood that the following claims are intended to cover all of the generic and specific features of the invention herein described including all statements of the scope of the invention which, as a matter of language, might be said to fall there between.
Having described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. An automobile trunk latch mechanism for a pivoted led on an automobile provided with a cylinder lock, a lock housing and a latch mechanism mounted on the exterior of said automobile to lock said pivoted lid, a stem extending from the lock to an opening in the latch mechanism coherein rotation of said lock and stem releases said latch mechanism, the improvement comprising, a sleeve constructed of a durable material mounted on the rear of the housing incasing said stem and the opening in said latch mechanism, whereby said sleeve prevents access by unconventional entry around said lock housing to said stem and samd opening to operate the latch.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CERTlFlQAT Q QQRRECTION Patent No. 3 740 980 Dated June 26 1973 Inventor(s) Gregory Frank Schimizzi et a1.
It is certified that error appears in the above-identified patent and that said Letters Patent are hereby corrected as shown below:
The invention offers protection to the trunk lock stem by incasing it from being tampered-with, in whatever manner, which might defeat the lock's purpose when in the closed position and result in the opening of the trunk lid. p
A further object of this device, other than the protection of the trunk lock stem, is that it also incases the latch mechanism entry hold (the point whereby the tumbler stem turns and opening. of, the latch is initiated) This is covered by the device preventing probes fromv being placed that might bypass the tumbler stem mechanism and trip the latch hole thus defeating the lock's purpose. 1
This device further prevents the complete lock from being pushed'inward by creating a barrier which surrounds the delicate components offering additional rigidity to the lock. 7
This-invention offers protection to automobile trunk locks in a manner which up to now has not'been utilized or discovered.
