Abstract

A towel which is combined with a pillow so that a person may recline on the towel placing his head comfortably on a pillow. The towel is formed at one end with a pocket in which the pillow is removably located, and the pillow is preferably inflatable so that it can be deflated to facilitate storage while at the same time it can be removed to facilitate washing of the towel.

How ever, because the individual may be wet, there is considerable inconvenience in utilizing mats of this type. It is of course extremely inconvenient to cover such a mat with a water-absorbent fabric such as a suitable towelling.

There are also known pillow assemblies which can be used to comfortably support the head of an individual, but with such pillow assemblies not only does the assembly become undesirably dampened if the individual has just come out of the water and is still wet, but in addition considerable inconvenience is encountered in providing for an individual who is still wet a suitable arrangement of a towel of the like on which the individual can rest while at the same time making use of the pillow. The pillow becomes damp and uncomfortable almost immediately after wet hair is applied thereto, and the arrangement of the separate towel and the pillow is extremely inconvenient. Of course, it is possible to releasably interconnect a pillow and towel, but the releasable interconnecting structure will create in itself undesirable problems.

It is accordingly a primary object of the present invention to provide a construction of the above general type which will avoid the above drawbacks.

In particular, it is an object of the invention to provide a towel-pillow combination which lends itself to extremely convenient use under conditions as referred to above.

In addition, it is an object of the invention to provide a construction of this type which is exceedingly simple and inexpensive as well as convenient to use.

Furthermore, it is an object of the invention to provide a construction which enables the towel itself to be conveniently washed separately from the pillow, while the pillow can be very readily and conveniently assembled with and disassembled from the towel.

Furthermore, it is an object of the invention to provide a construction which lends itself to a convenient easy storage while occupying an extremely small amount of space.

Also, it is an object of the invention to provide a construction according to which the length of the towel can be readily adapted to the height of the particular individual and also according to which it becomes possible at any time for the individual to place in contact with his head a dry portion of the towel, while still retaining the advantages of the pillow-support.

According to the invention there is an elongated towel formed at one end with a transversely extending pocket, and a pillow is situated in this pocket, so that in this way a person reclining on the towel can rest his head on the pillow. The pocket is preferably at least partly open at one side edge so that the pillow can easily be removed from and reinserted into the pocket, and the towel itself is formed only of a single layer of towelling having an end portion folded back upon itself and attached by suitable stitching to the remainder of the towel to form the pocket.

' DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Referring now to the drawings, there is shown in FIG. 1 a towel-pillow combination 10 according to the invention. This combination includes an elongated towel 12 made of any suitable water-absorbent towelling material, and at one end this towel 12 is provided with a pocket 14. Situated within the pocket 14 is a pillow 16.

The manner in which the pillow 16 is arranged within the pocket 14 is particularly apparent from FIG. 2. Also, as is apparent from FIG. 2, the towel 12 has an end portion 18 folded back upon itself and connected at its end edge to the remainder of the towel by a transverse line of stitching 20. As is illustrated in the plan view of FIG. 3 where the towel 12 is shown by itself, in addition to the line of stitching 20 there is along one side edge a line of stitching 22 which closes the pocket 14 at its right end, as viewed in FIG. 3. At its left end, however, as viewed in FIG. 3, the pocket 14 is Provided only with a line of stitching 24 which extends only part of the way toward the line of stitching 20. As a result the pocket 14 is provided on one side with an entrance opening 26 most clearly apparent from FIG. 1. Thus, FIG. 3 illustrates the arrangement of the lines of

20, 22, and 24 which achieve for the towel-pillow combination 10 the pocket structure 14 described above and shown in the drawing.

The pillow 16 illustrated in FIG. 4 may be any conventional inflatable pillow. Because of the flexibility of this pillow it can easily be introduced through the opening 26. Of course it is possible to use other types of pil lows, but it is preferred to use an inflatable pillow 16 because the plastic sheet material used to form the pillow is impervious to water. FIG. 4 schematically illustrates a suitable releasable closure 30 through which the operator can inflate and deflate the pillow 16.

In order to store the structure, the pillow 16 is simply deflated, and the structure can be folded in a flat condition as illustrated in FIG. 5.

Furthermore, during use of the structure it is possible to wrap the towel 12 one or more times around the inflated pillow which is in the pocket 14, as illustrated in FIG. 6. As a result it becomes possible to adjust the length of the towel which projects beyond the pillow, so that the length of the towel can be adapted to the particular individual who is using the towel. Furthermore, it is possible in this way to expose at' the upper surface of the structure as shown in FIG. 6 a portion of the towel which is dry, so that if part of the towel over the pillow 16 should become too wet, the operator can at any time place an additional layer of towelling over the pillow to achieve a more comfortable use of the structure.

It is thus apparent that with the above-described structure of the invention, an exceedingly inexpensive arrangement is provided for combining a towel with a pillow in such a way that advantages of easy and convenient storage are achieved while at the same time extremely convenient use is also achieved.

What is claimed is:

l. A towel-pillow combination comprising an elongated towel folded back upon itself at one end and terminating at said one end in a transverse edge stitched to the remainder of said towel and forming a pocket extending transversely across the towel and having a width equalling the width of the towel at said one end thereof, said towel having a length several times greater than the dimension of said pocket longitudinally of the towel, and a pillow situated in said pocket, whereby a single layer of the towel can cover the pillow or the towel can be wrapped around the pocket which accommodates the pillow to shorten the towel and to provide at the pocket an exterior dry towel surface, the adjoining side edges of the towel at said pocket being joined completely along one side of the towel but only partly along the other side to form an entrance through which a pillow may be introduced into and removed from the pocket.

2. The combination of claim 1, and wherein said pillow is inflatable and deflatable, so that upon deflation of thepillow the entire towel-pillow combination can be neatly folded up into a substantially flat and substantially thin condition for convenient storage

Claims

1. A towel-pillow combination comprising an elongated towel folded back upon itself at one end and terminating at said one end in a transverse edge stitched to the remainder of said towel and forming a pocket extending transversely across the towel and having a width equalling the width of the towel at said one end thereof, said towel having a length several times greater than the dimension of said pocket longitudinally of the towel, and a pillow situated in said pocket, whereby a single layer of the towel can cover the pillow or the towel can be wrapped around the pocket which accommodates the pillow to shorten the towel and to provide at the pocket an exterior dry towel surface, the adjoining side edges of the towel at said pocket being joined completely along one side of the towel but only partly along the other side to form an entrance through which a pillow may be introduced into and removed from the pocket.

2. The combination of claim 1, and wherein said pillow is inflatable and deflatable, so that upon deflation of the pillow the entire towel-pillow combination can be neatly folded up into a substantially flat and substantially thin condition for convenient storage.
