UNROLLED CIGARETTE CHARGE PACK Filed April 27, 1966 United States Patent Oflice 3,385,302 Patented May 28, 1968 3,385,302 UNROLLED CIGARETTE CHARGE PACK Herman Wattenford, P.O. Box 788, Bridgeport, Wash. 98813 Filed Apr. 27, 1966, Ser. No. 545,644 2 Claims. (Cl. 131-4) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A novel unrolled cigarette charge pack containing a plurality of cigarette charges in unrolled condition, each cigarette charge including a filter paper with tobacco bonded upon one side, the tobacco having beveled side edges so to form a uniformly smooth cylinder after the cigarette charge is rolled.
This invention relates generally to cigarette charges. More specifically it relates to cigarette charges which may be rolled individually by the smoker.
A principal object of the present invention is to provide a novel cigarette charge which may be rolled by the smoker at the time that he desires to smoke.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a novel cigarette charge which may be rolled at the time of being smoked and wherein the tobacco and cigarette paper are not separately handled as is presently done where smokers roll their own cigarettes, but wherein the paper and tobacco are bonded together, thereby requiring only that the same be rolled.
Still another object of the present invention is to pro vide a novel cigarette charge which may be designed with or without filtering material at one end thereof.
Other objects are to provide a novel cigarette charge which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to use and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study of the following specifications and accompanying drawing wherein:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of the present invention showing the cigarette charge prior to rolling operation;
FIGURE 2 is a perspective view thereof shown rolled;
FIGURE 3 is a plan view of the modified form thereof shown prior to rolling;
FIGURE 4 is a similar view showing still another modified form thereof;
FIGURE 5 is a perspective view of a pack of cigarettes shown incorporating the present invention;
FIGURE 6 is a perspective view of one of the cigarette charges and showing a novel pull tab for removing the cigarette charge from a cigarette charge pack, and
FIGURE 7 is a side elevation view of a cigarette charge shown being pulled out of a cigarette charge pack indicated in cross section.
10 represents a Redy-Rol cigarette charge according to the present invention wherein there is a rectangular filter paper 11 having a quantity of smoking tobacco 12 bonded to one side thereof. The tobacco may have to be cut in a special way to make it more suited to this type of cigarette. The tobacco is compressed and made to adhere to the paper in any of several possible well known methods.
As shown in FIGURE 1 of the drawing the longitudinal side edges 13 of the tobacco are bevelled so to produce a relatively smooth roll 14 without adjutting edges. The tobacco is in contact with a major portion of the side 15 of the filter paper, allowing only a narrow longitudinal edge 16 at one side which may be coated with an adhesive 17 for purpose of sealing the cigarette charge in a rolled condition, or if preferred the edge 16 may be left without adhesive added thereto as shown in FIGURE 6.
In a modified construction shown in FIGURE 3 of the drawing, the filter paper 18 includes a pull tab 19 to allow the cigarette charge to be withdrawn individually from a cigarette charge pack 20 illustrated in FIG URE 5. The pull tab 19 may be serrated along its base as shown in 20 to allow the tab to be torn off prior to smoking. If preferred such tab may be provided without serration and the tab may be burned off if used at the lighting end of the cigarette charge.
In another modified form of the invention illustrated in FIGURE 4 of the drawing, the cigarette charge 21 includes a filter paper 22 tobacco 23 bonded thereto as above described and also a nicotine and tar filter 24 placed at one end of the filter paper and adjacent to the tobacco so that when the cigarette charge is rolled it will have the filter in a commonly well-known relation relative to the tobacco.
In FIGURE 6 another modified type of cigarette charge 25 is shown which includes a different type of pull tab 26. Such pull tab has an elongated upper side 27 which extends over the upper side of the cigarette charge and around the rear thereof to form a lower tab 28 on the under side of the cigarette charge. Such pull tab may comprise a divider sheet and need not necessarily be attached to the cigarette charge but be located between the cigarette charges. By pulling upon the forwardly protruding end 29 of the tab the cigarette charge will be withdrawn from the cigarette pack 20.
As shown in FIGURE 7 of the drawing the pull tab 30 may extend on the under side of the cigarette charge 10 around the rear thereof at fold 31 then extend forwardly upon the upper side of the cigarette charge to a hold 32, determinal end of the tab extending rearwardly where it is secured at 33 to the rear wall 34 of the cigarette charge pack 20.
In operative use, the smoker may withdraw one of the unrolled cigarette charges out of the pack 20, roll the same as shown in FIGURE 2, moisten the gummer or adhesive edge 16 and the cigarette charge is ready for smoking.
Thus there has been shown a novel roll your own cigarette charge wherein the tobacco and filter paper are not separate but integral together.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it is understood that such changes will be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as is defined by the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. In a pack of unrolled cigarette charges, the combination of a box and a plurality of unrolled cigarette charges within said box, each said cigarette charge comprising a filter paper, a quantity of tobacco, said tobacco being compressed and bonded to one side of said filter paper, said filter paper being of rectangular configuration having one side which is bonded to said tobacco, said tobacco being bonded to a major portion of said side of said filter paper, said side having an exposed narrow area along one longitudinal edge, said exposed area being gummed to form a sealing edge after said cigarette charge is rolled, the opposite longitudinal edge of said tobacco being beveled so to form a relatively smooth surfaced cylindrical cigarette after being rolled, said box comprising a rectangular member having a rear wall, side walls, and opening at its front end, closeable by a flap cover, a divider sheet between each of said cigarette charges within said cigarette charge box, said divider sheets each formed with a pull tab at one end, said divider sheet extending around the rear end of said cigarette charge to allow pulling said cigarette charge out of said cigarette charge box.
2. The combination as set forth in claim 1 wherein the rear end of said divider sheet is secured to the rear Wall of said cigarette charge pack.
