(Cl. -344) This invention relates to improvements in blanket construction. More particularly, this invention relates to improvements in the construction of blankets usually used at picnics or on beaches.

In picnicking or bathing at a beach, a blanket or other The principal object of the present invention is to provide a beach and/ or picnic blanket that may be easily secured to the ground or beach thereby preventing said blanket from being blown or otherwise easily disturbed.

An additional object of the presentinvention is the provision of securing means which may be removably attachedto said blanket in such manner that their disengagement by accident is rendered difiicult, but which may be detached when necessary or desirable, such as, when folding or storing or cleaning.

A further additional object of the present invention is the provision of means in association with the securing means of said blanket which allows the securing of said blanket even though the removably attached securing devices may be misplaced, by means of whatever weighted articles may be at hand.

Still other objects of the present invention reside in the combination of elements, arrangements of parts, and features of construction, all as will be more fully pointed out hereinafter, and shown in the accompanying drawing wherein there is disclosed a preferred embodiment of the present invention. a

Referring now to the drawing, in detail, wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, there is generally indicated at a picnic or beach blanket or the like which may be of any desired size, and of, any desired flexible material, adapted to be spread on and secured to the ground, beach and the like for any desired purpose.

Within each pocket 11 is placed any desired weighted material 12, this weighted material may be sand, dirt, rocks, weighted bag or the like that will function to hold the ends of the blanket 10 secured to the ground so that the blanket 10 will not be easily blown about or otherwise easily moved from its desired position.

A variation of pocket 11 is a removably attaching means 13 wherein pocket 11 is provided with a weighted bag 14 containing weighted material 15 such as sand, dirt, rocks or the, like therein that will function as does weighted material 12. Removable attaching means 13 may be of any desired type such as the snap arrangement 13 and 13a as shown or may be a clip, button or the like. 1 Bag 14 may be removed for easy folding and storage. Pockets 11 are provided so that if one or more of the weighted bags 14 is lost or forgotten pockets 11 function as in FIGURE 2 and may be filled with Weighted material 12.

Obviously in the use and application of the device of the present invention, the blanket 10 is first extended to itsfull length, and then each corner pocket 11 is filled with either the weighted material 12 or weighted bags 14. t From the foregoing it will be seen that there is herein provided an improved blanket and anchoring means therefor which accomplishes all of the objects of this invention, and others, including many advantages of great practical utility and commercial importance and acceptance.

While specific embodiments of the present invention have been illustrated and described, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that changes and modifications may be made in the exact details shown without departing from the spirit of the present invention or the scope of the appended claims.

What is claimed is:

1. An all purpose beach and picnic blanket of the character described comprising a generally rectangularly shaped flexible material, with wide open triangular shaped corner pockets at each corner point about the perimeter of said flexible material, said open corner pockets provided to receive therein material of substantial weight.

2. An all-purpose beach'and picnic blanket of the character described comprising a generallyrectangular shaped flexible material with an open corner pocket at each corner joined about the perimeter of said flexible material, said open corner pockets provided with a means for removably attaching weighted materials therein, said removably attaching means being a snap fastener.

AN ALL PURPOSE BEACH AND PICNIC BLANKET OF THE CHARACTER DESCRIBED COMPRISING A GENERALLY RECTANGULARLY SHAPED FLEXIBLE MATERIAL, WITH WIDE OPEN TRIANGULAR SHAPED CORNER POCKETS AT EACH CORNER POINT ABOUT THE PERIMETER OF SAID FLEXIBLE MATERIAL, SAID OPEN CORNER POCKETS PROVIDED TO RECEIVE THEREIN MATERIAL OF SUBSTANTIAL WEIGHT.
