UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ADRIEN JULES ALEXIS DUMOULIN, OF PARIS, FRANCE, ASSIGNOR TO OOMPAGNIE DE FIVES LILLE, OF SAME PLACE.
APPARATUS FOR KNEADING AND ELEVATING DOUGH-LIKE, do, MATTER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 329,376, dated October 27, 1885.
Application filed July 25, 1885. Serial No. 172,646. (No model.) Patented in France October 31, 1882, No. 151,853; in Spain April 20, 1883, No. 3,845; in Belgium January 28, 1884, No. 63, 965; in England January 29, 1884, No. 2,344, and in Austria-Hungary February 2, 1884, No. 5,190 and No. 26,177.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ADRIEN J ULEs ALEXIS, DUMOULIN, a citizen of the Republic of France, residing at Paris, in the said Republic, have invented anew and useful Improvement in Apparatus for Kneading and Elevating Dough-Like and Semi-Fluid Matters, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is to provide for the mixing and kneading and economical elevation or transportation to a distance of pastry and semi-fluid matterssuch as dough, the products of sugar houses and refineries, ceramic matters, soap, paper-stock, 850.
The apparatus is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a central longitudinal vertical section, and Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical section.
Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in both figures.
The machine is composed of a horizontal cylinder, A, surmounted by a reservoir, BB, to receive the matters to be mixed or kneaded and elevated or transported, the upper part, B, of said reservoir being in the form of a hopper, and there being between it and the lower part, B, a mixing device consisting of a rotary horizontal cylinder, G, furnished with a helicoidal system of stirring-teeth, g, the said cylinder being driven by any suitable system of gearing. The cylinder A, which is situated within the lower part, B, of the reservoir, is fitted with a cylindro-conical compressingpiston, O, which receives a reciprocating mo tion within the said cylinder by means of a crank-shaft, D, and connecting-rod D, or any convenient mechanical means. The matters to be kneaded and elevated or transported are received into the cylinder A through four openings, ab 0 d, provided in the sides thereof at a convenient part of its periphery and length. The said matters are caused to enter the cylinder through these holes by the combined action of gravity and atmospheric pressure at each movement of the compressingpiston at the moment when the latter uncovers the said holes. The conical part 0 of the compressor-piston is intended to uncover gradually, and not abruptly, the holes a b 0 d, and so to better insure regularity of operation. At the moment when the compressor-piston returns it forces the matter into the compression-chamber E, closing the four openings ab 0 d, and forces it into the conducting-tube T through the throat T by raising the conical valve F, provided between the said chamber E and throat T.
The cylinder G, with its stirring teeth 9, may be used in apparatus whose purpose is only the elevation or transportation of doughlike and semi-fluid matters which require no kneading or mixing, the said cylinder and teeth in such case serving to assist in permitting the free supply of the matters to the lower part, B, of the reservoir and to the cylinder A.
\Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of the reservoir B B, the rotary kneading or mixing cylinder G g, pro vided between the upper and lower parts thereof, the compression-cylinder A in the lower part of said reservoir, communicating therewith by openings a b 0 d in the sides thereof, the reciprocating compressing-piston within said cylinder, and the compressionehamber E, throat T, valve F, and deliverytube T at the delivery end of said cylinder, all substantially as herein described.
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
