GEORGE A. G-ALLOWAY, OF LE CLAIRE, IOWA.
BOILER-CLEANER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 314,326, dated March 24, 1885.
Applieat ion filed October 4, 1884.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved boiler-cleaner. Fig. 2 is a side view, and Fig. 3 is a cross-section, of thesanie.
The cleaner is constructed of two pipes, at a, connected to a T, b, and bent to the shape of the boiler, their length being according to ex tent of the fire-surface. The ends of the tubing are closed by plugs 5, and upon the upper side the tube is formed with perforations made so as to discharge steam at an angle of about thirty degrees.
(No model.)
To the T b is attached atube, d, of suitable length for use in manipulating the cleaner, and also for supplying steam, for which latter purpose the outer. end of the tube or handle (1 will be connected by a flexible pipe to a steam-connection at the front of the boiler.
In using this cleaner it is inserted in the fire-box and moved closely over the fire-surface of the steam-boiler, and steam being applied at the same time,-the jets act to remove the soot and scale upon the fire surface. This action will be thorough, so that the surface will be rendered clean, with the result of a great saving in fuel by the removal of the non-conducting materials that always accumulate on the fire-surface of a boiler.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The boiler-cleaner consisting of the curved and perforated tubing a, provided with the handle or steam-supply pipe (I, substantially as described.
