PAPER ROLL HOLDER Filed Feb. '7, 1962 INVENTOR. (M/. E5 5545/0/ United States Patent Office 3,085,756 Patented Apr'. 16, 1963 3,085,760 PAPER ROLL HOLDER Charles Belsky, 18941 Santa Rosa Drive, Detroit 21, Mich. Filed Feb. 7, 1962, Ser. No. 171,644 2 Claims. (Cl. 242-5553) This invention relates to paper roll holders, and, more particularly, to paper roll holders of the type used in washrooms for toilet paper, paper towels and the like.
It is an important object of the present invention to provide a novel and improved paper roll holder which embodies a case adapted to be mounted on the wall of a washroom and which is open on the bottom side thereof for quick and easy reception of a roll of paper carried on a support member, and which support member is provided with means for quick and positive releasable locking engagement with the case for holding the roll of paper in a convenient and accessible position.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a novel and improved paper roll holder which is simple and compact in construction, economical of manufacture, pleasing in appearance, efiicient in operation, and which may be quickly and easily reiilled when necessary.
It is a still further object of the present invention to provide a novel and improved paper roll holder which comprises a case enclosed around the sides, top and ends thereof, and which is open on the bottom side thereof for the reception of a roll of paper, and which further includes a horizontal insert or support member which is adapted to be slidably mounted through the core of the paper roll before the roll is inserted into the case, and which insert is provided with means on each end thereof for quick and easy detachable locking engagement with -a mounting means formed in each of the side walls of the case.
Other objects, features and advantages of this invention will be apparent from the following detailed description and appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of the specification where.- in like reference numerals designate corresponding parts of the several views.
In the drawing,
FIG. 1 is a front elevational View, with parts broken away, of a paper roll holder, made in accordance with the principles of the present invention;
FIG. 2 is a right side elevational view of the structure illustrated in FIG. l;
FIG. 3 is an elevational sectional view of the structure illustrated in FIG. 1, taken along the line. 3-3 thereof, and looking in the direction of the arrows;
FIG. 4 is a horizontal sectional view of the structure illustrated in FIG. 2, taken along the line 44 thereof, and looking in the direction of the arrows;
FIG. 5 is a fragmentary side elevational View of the case structure illustrated in FIG. 1, taken along the line 5 5 thereof, looking in the direction of the arrows, and showing part of the paper roll support structure in crosssection; and,
FIG. 6 is a perspective view of the paper roll supporting insert structure employed in the present invention.
Referring now to the drawing, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 4, the numeral 10 generally indicates the case or housing of the paper roll holder. The case 10 is provided with a pair of spaced apart vertical side walls, a iiat rear Wall, a sloping front wall, and a curved top wall, as more fully described hereinafter. The case 10 may -be made as a unitary or integral molded structure, and made from any suitable plastic material, light weight metal, or the like.
The case 10` includes the vertical rear wall 11 which is adapted to be mounted on the wall 11'a of a washroom and to be secured in place by any suitable means, as by means of a plurality of screws 12. As clearly shown in FIGS. 1 through 4, the case 10l is open on the bottom side thereof, and it includes the upwardly curved or convex top wall 13 which is integral with the downwardly and outwardly sloping front wall 14. The case 10 further includes the substantially vertical integral right side wall comprising the outer portion 15 and the inwardly stepped portion 16. The case 10 further includes a simil-ar stepped wall on the left side thereof which comprises the outer portion 17 and the inner portion 18.
As shown in FIGS. l, 2 and 5, the side wall portion 15 is provided with a vertical slot 19 which extends upwardly from the lower edge of the wall 15. The vertical slot 19 extends upwardly for about one quarter of the height of the side Wall 15 at which point it is enlarged outwardly sidewardly, as indicated by the numeral 2t), to provide the support shoulders 21 and 22. The slot 19 continues upwardly beyond the enlarged area 20 to the termination point 23, as shown in FIG. 5. The portion of the slot 19 above the enlarged potrion 20 is reduced in width to a width slightly smaller than the lower entrance portion of the slot. The termination or end point 23 of the slot 19 is located at a point which is approximaely midway of the overall height of the sidewall portions 15 and 16.
As shown in FIGS. 1, 2 and 5, the right side wall 15 is provided with the reinforcing elongated plates 24 and 25 along the side edges of the lower portion of the slot 19. It will be seen that the upper ends of the reinforcing plates 24 and 25 terminate evenly with the shoulders 21 and 22 in the enlarged slot portion 20. It will be understood that the left side wall portion 17 is also provided with a similar slot as 19. The corresponding portions of the similar slot in the left side wall portion 17 appear partially in FIGS. 3 and 4, as 19a, and 20a.
As shown in FIGS. l, 2 and 3, the roll of paper 26 is inserted in the case from the bottom thereof and is held therein by means of the insert or support member generally indicated by the numeral 27. As best seen in FIGS. 3, 4 and 6r, the insert 27 includes the elongated body portion which is substantially I-shaped in crosssection. As viewed in FIGS. 1 and 2, the insert 27 is provided on the right end thereof with the vertical elongated rigid plate or arm 29, on the outer end of which is integrally formed the vertical downwardly extended enlargement or shoulder 30. Integrally formed on the lower end of the shoulder 30 is a sidewardly, outwardly extended iinger button or knob 31. The arm 29 extends outwardly from the right end of the body portion 28, along the upper edge thereof.
A second plate or arm 32 is integrally connected to the body portion 28 along the lower edge thereof as shown in FIG. 6. The arm 32 is a flexible, spring arm, and in its normal position i-t -is extended outwardly and sideward-ly so as to be laterally spaced apart from the arm 29; Integrally formed on the outer end of the spring arm 32 is the finger button or knob 33t As yshown in FIG. 6, the lower spring -ar'm 32 is spaced apart downwardly a slight distance from the lower side of the upper rigid arm `29.
It will be seen that the arm 29 is in substantial axial alignment with the body portion 28. As shown in FIGS. 1, 4 and 6, the left end of the insert 27 is also provided with a similar pair of rigid and iiexible arms, as the arms 29 and 32, and the same reference numerals have been used to indicate the coresponding parts, followed by the small letter ca As best seen in FIG. 6, the body portion 28 is provided with a pair of spaced apart paper roll `guide rails 34 and 35 on the. upper side thereof.
In the use of the paper roll holder the insert 27 is put into the axial core hole 36 of the roll 26. The user then grasps the buttons 31 and 32 with one pair of fingers and the buttons 31a and 32a with another pair of iin gers. The
While it will be apparent that the preferred embodiment of the invention herein disclosed is Well calculated to fulfill the objects above stated, it will be appreciated that the invention is susceptible to modification, variation and change wtihout departing from the proper scope or fair meaning of the subjoined claims.
