DOOR MAT.
Q25 /77 Ven/0r mf* j/er @Ww -Zy ZM/y' fg/JMW UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PETER KLEFFMAN, '0F DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
DOOR-MAT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 304,433, dated September 2, 1884.
\ Application tiled October 1, 1883.
'o all whom it may concern,.-
Beit known that I, PETER KLEFFMAN, of Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented new and useful Improvements in Door-Mats; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in the construction of door-mats; and the invention consists in the peculiar construction, arrangement, and combination o'f the parts, all as more fully hereinafter set forth. i
In the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this specification, my invention is shown in perspective, in which A represents a scraper, which is formed of strips of hoopiron, b, which are bent in any convenient shapes, and rigidly riveted together, as shown, the whole being secured within the frame B. Around this scraper I secure the mat C, which is constructed of braided rattan, which is first formed into a long braid, and then wound around .the edge of the scraper, to which it is rigidly secured and sewed together, so as to form the mat.
By this construction I produce a mat and scraper combined that is very simple and durable.
I am aware that mats have heretofore been (No model.)
constructed and provided with a scraper. I am also aware that mats have been made of rattan, and hence I do not broadly claim such as my invention.
I deem it important that the strips of iron of .which the scraper is made should be bent in the form shown and riveted at their points of contact, for this construction makes a much stronger and more durable scraper than can be cast, at a much less expense, the diagonal strips serving as braces to still further strengthen the same, and the frame shown tends to` keep the mat in shape.
. IVhat I do claim as my invention is-n 1. A door-mat composed of a frame, B, scraper A, composed of strips of-hoopiron, b, and secured to said frame, and the mat C, constructed of braided rattan wound around and secured to the outsideof said frame, substantially as herein shown and described.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a doormat constructed of braided rattan wound around and secured t0 a frame, to which is secured the scraper A, formed of strips of hoopir'on, b, bent into the shape shown, and secured together at their points of contact, substantially as herein shown and described.
PETER KLEFFMAN.
