EPECIFICIION formingpart of Letters Patent No. 293,310, dated February 12, 1884.
Application inea october 31, ifea. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE P. CLEMENTs, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Milford, in the county of Susquehanna and State of Pennsylvania, haveinvented certain new .and useful Improvements in Sash-Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appert-ains to make and use the same. Y
My invention relates to certain improve ments in sash-fasteners, and is more especially adapted to car-windows, though it can be used on windows of any kind. Itis so constructed that all rattling and jarring is4 prevented; and it consists of a metal slide secured t0 the window-sash and working on albead or strip fastened to the window-frame, the slide being provided with a set-screw for adjusting the window at any desired point, `the knob of which set-screw is also used to raise andlower the window, all ofV which I will now proceed more particularly to pointV out and describe,
reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in Which- Figure l is a perspective.. Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken through the center of the screw.' Fig. 3' is a perspective of the slide removed from the window. y
Referring to said drawings, A is the window-frame, B the window'sash. C is a metal slide attached to the lower part of the sash by the screwsf, and is provided with a slot, c. D is a strip or bead secured to the windowframe by the screws Land litting in the slot c of the slide C. Said slide C works on the bead D. E is a set-screw working in the Vslide C, and, binding against the bead D, serves to hold the sash at the position of adjustment. Said screw is provided with 'a knob, e, which is used to tighten` or loosen the screw, and to raise or lower window.
The operation of my fastener is as follows: By turning the knob to the left," the setscrew is loosened from Contact with the bead D, and
the window can be raised or lowered to the desired position. Then, turning the knob lo the right, it binds against the bead D and holds the window firmly in place, thus preventing any rattling or jarring.
This sash-fastener is Very effective, can be made cheaply, and is so simple in construc-` GEORGE I. GLElvIENlS.-
