8 Claims. (Cl. 222-555) This invention relates to a ster box andsifterunit One object of Vthis invention is to generally improve the construction shown in United States Patent No. 2,480,096.
A further object of this invention is to provide in a device of the character described, a highly improved sifter unit comprised of three sheets or layers of superimposed cardboard attached together, the top cardboard layer having a central circular opening, the middle cardboard layer having a central circular opening larger than the opening in the top cardboard layer, and the bottom cardboard layer having a small opening eccentric with respect to the first two mentioned openings, and a circular valve disk rotatable ink the opening of the middle cardboard layer and being disposed between the top and bottom cardboard layers, and being formed with a plurality of small outlet openings adapted to register with the opening in the bottom cardboard layer, in one angular position of the valve disk.
Another object of this invention is to provide in a sifter unit of the character described, a paper sheet attached to the top surface of the bottom cardboard layer and on which the rotary valvedisk lies, said paper sheet being formed with an opening registering with theopening in the bottom cardboard layer.
Another object of this invention is to provide a highly improved sifter box of the character described, said sifter comprising a sifter unit tted within one end of a tube and engaging an inwardly rolled end. edge of said tube, and said sifter unit being held in place against the rolled end edge of said tube by an inner tubertelescoped within thev lirst tube and having an Vend edge contacting the underside of the sifter unit.
Yet another object of this invention is to provide a sifter unit of the character described, which is oval in shape and in which the circular opening is centrally 1o.

Yet another object of this invention is to provide a strong, rugged and durable sifter box construction and sitter unit therefor, which shall be relatively inexpensive to manufacture Vand, yet ,practical and eicient to a high degree and use. y
Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.
The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts, which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described, and of which the scope of invention will' be indicated in the following claims.

Referring now in detail to the drawing, 10 designates a sifter box embodying the invention. .A The same comprises an outer'case 1I. Said case 11 comprises an outer casewall 12 of oval transverse cross-section having-an inwardly rolled. lower edge ange 1'3 and an upper end edge 14. Mounted within the casewall 12, and resting on the lower end edge 13, is a bottom wall 15 which. may be press-fitted invplace or glued, as desired-.1
Slidable within th outer case 11 is an inner caseV 16;. The inner case 16 comprises an outer tubular wall 17., likewise of oval cross-section and telescoped within` the tubular wall 12; Wall 17 has a lower end edge 18v resting on the bottom wall 15. Wall 17 has an upper in.- wardly rolled end edge flange 19 spaced above the upper edge 14 of wall 12. Telescoped within wall 17 is a wall 20, likewise of oval cross-section. WallV 20v has a lower end edgey 21 likewise resting on thevr upper surface of the bottom wall =1S. VThe upper end 2210i wall 20 is spaced below the upper inwardly rolled edge 19 of tur bular wall 17. Mounted within the upper end of the wall 17, and between the upper edge 22. of wall 20 and the inwardly rolled edge 19 of wall 17,l is a sifter unit 25. Said sifter unit 25 comprises a bottom cardboard layer 26, a top cardboard layer 27 and a. middle or intermediate cardboard layer 28. These are superimposed and have sim- They have` oval-shaped 'outer pe ripheries contacting the inner surface of wall 17.y The top layer 27 is formed. with a central cut-Out Opening 27a. The intermediate layer 28 isformed with a central cutout opening 28a larger than the opening 27a. The bottom layer 26 is formed' with an. eccentric smaller cut-out or opening 26a, offset from the center of the openings 27a and 28a. Glued, or otherwise adhered to the upper surface of the bottom cardboard' layer 26 is a thin sheet 30 formedfwith an opening 30a registering with the opening 26a. Rotatively mountde on the paper sheet 30, and between the said paper sheet and the upper cardboard layer 27', is a rotary valve diskmember 31 which may be made of' synthetic plastic material. The inner periphery of opening 27a of ,top layer 27 overlaps the outer peripheryv of the'disk 31. `The disk 31 substantially has the same thickness as the intermediate layer 28. Said disk 31 is formed with a centraltransvers diametric upwardly extending ridge 32 projecting through the opening 27a. The ridge 32' may be grasped by the ngers of the operator for rotating the disk.
Said disk 31 is formed with a plurality o f small spaced openings 33. Four'such openings 33 are shown in uthe drawing, although any suitable number may be provided. All of the openings 33 are, however, within a circular outline having diameter equal to the diameter ofthe opening 26a. In the closed' position of the box Vshown in IFigs. 2, 3 and 5, the openings 33 are offset from the openings 30a and 26a so that powder material within the box cannot be sifted through. Howevenupon rotating the disk 30 to the position shown inFg. 6, the openings 33' are brought into registry, with the openingsy 2611 and 36a, so that the powdermaterial may be sifted out of the box. The"top cardboard layer 27 is glued to the intermediate cardboard layer 28, which Yin turn is glued to -the paper sheet30, which as stated before is` glued to the bottom cardboard layer 26.
