(Cl. 4-185) This invention relates to support particularly adapted for use in a bathroom, and in particular handles or grips formed of conventional pipe or tubing adapted to be installed in openings through the edge of a bath tub and having a staff with rings for towels and the like thereon and also with a projection at the upper end for holding a hot water bag or syringe.

The purpose of this invention is to facilitate maneuvering in a bath tub and to substantially eliminate accidents resulting from slipping in a tub.

Numerous accidents caused by a person slipping or falling in bath tubs occur annually and with the conventional type of tub it is di'icult to find a place to grip whereby a person may stop a fall in case of accidental slipping or falling in a tub. It is also diflicult to hold a syringe in an elevated position for use in a bath tub. For these reasons comparatively young children and relatively old persons ind it diilicult to move from one position to another in a bath tub.

With these thoughts in mind this invention contemplates a handle or a plurality of handles installed in openings in the upper surface of the outer wall of a bath tub and also a stand carried by an extension from the end of one of the handles whereby a syringe and other devices may be supported in elevated positions.

The object of this invention is, therefore, to provide means for supporting a person or an object in a bath tub to prevent injury resulting from slipping or falling in a tub,

Another object of the invention is to provide gripping and supporting elements for use on a bath tub in which the elements may be installed on tubs now in use.

A further object of the invention is to provide gripping elements adapted to be used in combination with a bath tub in which the elements are of simple and economical construction.

With these and other objects and advantages in view the invention embodies a handle formed with a piece of pipe or tubing having threaded nipples extended from elbows at the ends and nuts for securing the nipples in openings in a wall, particularly of a bath tub, and another handle of similar construction and having a stad with a projection at the upper end, and spaced rings pivotally mounted thereon, carried by an extension secured in an end of the handle.

Referring now to the drawing wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts the improved bath tub grip and syringe support of this invention includes a handle including a pipe or tube 10 with elbows 11 and 12 at the ends and with threaded nipples 13 and 14 extended from the elbows secured in openings 15 and 16 in a wall 17 of the upper edge of the outer wall 18 of a bath tub 19 with nuts 20 and 21 on the nipple 13, and 22 and 23 on the nipple 14; and a similar grip including a tube 24 having an elbow 24 on one en-d and a T 26 on the other with nipples 27 and 28 secured in the upper portion 17 of the bath tub with nuts 29 and 30 on the nipple 27 and 31 and 32 on the nipple 28, an extension 33 threaded in and extended from the T 26, a staff 34 mounted in a reducing iitting 35 and elbow 36 and in which the staff is provided with rings 37 and 38 and a linger or projection 39 upon which a hot water bag or syringe may be supported.

The handle formed with the tube 10 is provided with a reinforcing plate 40 having openings 41 and 42 in the ends positioned to register with the openings 15 and 16 and nuts 21 and 23 are positioned against the under surface of the plate. A similar plate 43 with openings 44 and 45 therein is positioned on the lower ends of the nipples 27 and 28 and against the under surface of the portion 17 of the bath tub and the nuts 3l) and 32 are positioned against the under surface thereof.

The nger or projection 39 is extended outwardly providing a hook or support for the eye in a tab at the end of a hot water bottle, syringe, or the like and the rings 37 and 38 are provided with arcuate pins 46 that extend through openings 47 in the staff 34 whereby the ends are positioned against the side surfaces of the stad and the rings are free to swing outwardly to provide hangers for towels and the like.

As many of the handles may be provided on a bath tub as may be desired and although the parts are illustrated and described as being formed of plastic tubing, the parts may be formed of other suitable material and the parts may be painted or coated and the coating materials may be of different colors.

What is claimed is:

1. A bath tub grip and support comprising a U-shaped member having a gripping section with portions extended from the ends, means for clamping the extended portions in openings in a wall of a bath tub, and a stati having supporting rings pivotally connected thereon extended from one end of the gripping section.

In a bath tub grip, the combination which comprises a tube having fittings on the ends, threaded nipples having nuts thereon extended from the fittings, a plate also positioned on the nipples, an extension carried by one of the ttiugs at one end thereof, a stai having a linger on the upper end carried by the fitting on the end of the extension, and rings pivotally mounted on the sta.

3, In a bath tub grip, the combination which comprises a straight section, an L-shaped member on one end of said section, a T-shaped member at the opposite end of said section, nipples extended at right angles from the ends of the L-shaped member and the T-shaped member, a second straight section extended from the end of the straight section connected to the T-shaped member, a vertically disposed portion carried by the extended end of the second straight section, rings pivotally mounted on the vertically disposed portion, and fastening elements for securing the nipples in a wall of a bath tub.
