(fit. 3832) The present invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in safety razors and has more particular reference to the category of razors which are generally classified as throw-away types and wherein the materials used in making the holder are, therefore, of the so-called disposable variety.

More specifically, the invention has reference to a safety razor which is characterized by a handle-equipped holder and a single edge blade, the two being permanently combined and adapted to be thrown away as a unit when the cutting edge of the blade becomes sufliciently dull to justify use of another razor of duplicate construction.

More specifically, the invention has to do with a safety razor which is such in shape and construction that it may be compactly nested together with a duplicate one, whereby any reasonable number of these razors may be packaged for practical sale purposes or may be in a suitable manner arranged in a dispensing magazine in a vending machine, for example, the type of machine used in wash rooms and public places where patrons may have need for just such a razor.

Another object of the invention is to provide a safety razor wherein the holder is susceptible of being satisfactorily and aptly constructed from economical but rustresistant and non-corrosive metal, a kind of metal in the sheet category which lends itself to formation in a press.

Another aspect of the invention has to do with a readyto-use safety razor in which it is unnecessary to insert or remove the blade, one which is light in weight, sanitary, performs as a satisfactory shaver and which is accurately aligned and set at the factory and which will be sufiiciently substantial that it will satisfy the needs of discreet users more-or-less in an emergency situation and which constitutes that in which manufacturers and users will find their respective requirements and needs fully met and contained.

Other objects, features and advantages will become more readily apparent from the following description and the accompanying sheet of illustrative drawings.

In the drawings:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a safety razor constructed in accordance with the principles of the present invention;

Figure 2 is an enlarged section on the vertical line 22 of Figure 1 looking in the direction of the arrows; and

Figure 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Figure 2 looking in the direction of the arrows.

The holder constitutes one unit and this is denoted by the numeral 4, and as before stated it is made from sheet metal which is susceptible of being stamped out and then aptly bent to the shape shown. The final product comprises a suitable rigid handle 6 having a lateral flange S at one end which is at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the handle and is at an approximate oblique angle to the plane of the handle. There is a bend at 9 forming a reverse flange 10 and the two flanges 8 and 10 define a sort of a V-shaped channel 11. Then, there is a reverse bend which defines a third forwardly or outwardly extending flange 12 and this with the flange 10 provides a second V-shaped channel 14, the two channels opening in opposite directions and the flange 12 having a plurality of openings 16 therein. The remaining portion of the stamped metal is formed into a head or sheath, which latter is denoted by the numeral 18 and embodies spaced parallel plates 20 and 22. The transverse end portions of the plate 2%) are provided with struck-out tongues 24 and these tongues are laterally bent and fitted into keeper notches 26 provided therefor in the plate 2?. in the manner shown in Figure 3 and the terminals of the tongues are then laterally bent and clenched in place as at 2%. The same tongues, which will be referred to as detents, also extend through keeper notches provided in the transverse end portions of the single edged safety razor blade 30. This blade is precision made and the sheath is likewise precision made and angled so that the cutting edge of the blade cooperates properly with the stabilizing and retaining prongs 3232 as shown best in Figure l. The bend 9 forms a sort of a guide and guard and thus all of the features are harmoniously compatible with each other with the result that each contributes its proportionate share to the over-all head construction, whereby to provide a properly angled and usable permanent type safety razor, one which is permanent only so long as the safety razor blade is useful.

The gist of the invention has to do with a pre-fabricated ready-to-use economical dispensable and disposable type safety razor, one which may be purchased for a nominal sum, may be dispensed in a vending machine, which has a blade which lasts for a reasonable period of time, after which the device is thrown away.

It is thought that persons skilled in the art to which the invention relates will be able to obtain a clear understanding of the invention after considering the description in connection with the drawings. Therefore, a more lengthy description is regarded as unnecessary.

Minor changes in the shape, size, materials and arrangement of parts may be resorted to in actual practice without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention, as claimed.

Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

A blade-attached disposable safety razor comprising a one-piece holder embodying a substantially rigid handle, a head channel-shaped in cross-section with its lengthwise dimension disposed at right angles to the lengthwise axis of the handle, flange means joining said head with said handle, said flange means comprising a first flange joined intermediate its ends to one end of the handle and disposed at an oblique angle in respect to the plane of the handle and directed forwardly in respect to the front of the handle, a second rearwardly directed oblique-angled flange integrated with said first flange and cooperating therewith in defining an open ended rearwardly facing channel, and a third forwardly directed oblique-angled flange joined with said second flange and also with one wall of said head and defining a second open ended debris receiving channel facing forwardly, the junctural portions between said first and second flanges providing a bend and the latter having blade-supporting lugs struck out therefrom, a safety razor blade fitted into said head, the cutting edge of said blade cooperating with said lugs and spaced from the afore-mentioned bend, the respective end portions of said blade having keeper notches therein, one wall of said head having notches aligned with said keeper notches and the other wall of said head having laterally bent permanent retaining hooks and said hooks engaging in the notches in said blade as well as the notches in the first named wall of said head.
