Description
July 29, 1952' c. WA R ING v SEPARABLE TWO-PIECE HAT Filed.Ju1y 2, 1949 t INVENTOR. 65 2013 Mia W4 Patented July 29, 1952 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2,604,630 SEFARABLE TWO-PIECE HAT Carol Waring, Long Island City, N. Y.
Application July 2, 1949, Serial No. 102,815
1 Claim. 1
This invention relates to a two piece hat construction.
It 'is an object of the present invention to provide a two piece hat construction wherein the pieces of the hat can be separated frcm one another, that is the crown can be separated from the brim and either one of the pieces attached to a new piece of different color, worn separately, or if desired, the crown can be reversed.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a two piece hat construction which is simple, has a minimum number of parts, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to connect or dis connect the pieces together or from one another, of pleasing appearance, convenient to use and eflicient in operation.
For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. l is a perspective view of the invention shown being worn.
Fig. 2 is aside View of the hat showing the brim of Fig. 1 fastened to a different crown.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view and collective view of the two pieces separated from one another.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Referring now to the figures, represents a brim piece to which is attached a dome-shaped crown piece II. This crown piece has inturned inner edge forming an upstanding continuous band l2 to which are connected interior snap fastener elements I 3 which cooperate with snap fastener elements I 4 upon the interior portion of the brim In to secure'the pieces together.
The crown is made of layers of material, the exterior layers of which may be of different pattern or design and have such flexibility as to permit the crown to be inverted or turned inside out and still fasten by its fastener elements [3 to the fastener elements Id of the brim.
The brim proper is flared and formed of cloth material I5 surrounding an insert l6 of stiffened material and the elements 14 are connected to an upstanding continuous band H. An inner band I8 or sweat is stitched to the upstanding band of the brim for the engagement of the brim with the head.
A crown piece I I can be removed from the brim l0 and replaced by a crown piece l9 in the manner as shown in Fig. 2. This crown piece l9 will have a different outside appearance and will give a hat of different effect. The user of the hat accordingly can make over the same readily and 2 use coloring and the design as may seem best for the particular dress or suit outfit which is being worn by the wearer. It is also evident that the crown piece can be of waterproof material so that hat can be adapted for use in rainy weather.
It will be apparent that different designs can be used and that the shape of the brim and of the crown piece can be varied.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claim.
Having thus set forth and disclosed the nature of my invention, what is claimed is:
A two piece hat construction including a brim member comprising a flaring brim, the inner edge of the said brim defining an opening and an upstanding continuous band secured to the inner edge of said brim, a series of snap fastener elements secured upon the exterior of the upstanding band, a crown piece comprising a substantially dome-shaped member having an inturned inner edge forming a second continuous upstanding band extending freely a limited distance upward into said dome-shaped member,
and a series of complementary snap fastener elements fixed upon the exposed surface of said second continuous upstanding band capable of co-operating with the first mentioned snap fastener elements to secure the crown upon the brim when the second upstanding continuous band is disposed about and coextensive with the first mentioned continuous upstanding band, with the snap fastener elements mutually engaged in individual radial positions, a third upstanding continuous hat band secured to the lower edge of said first-mentioned band to provide a sweat band therefor.
