2 Claims. 1 280-4'7.19)
The present invention relates to new and use"- golf club carts designed for orderly holding golf clubs while the cart is being wheeled over the ground.
An important object of this invention is to pro- I vide a carrier for the golf clubs having individual tubular holders for the respective clubs whereby the same may be kept separated and more readily identified for conveniently selecting and removing a club from thecart. I
Another object of the invention is to provide detachable wheels and a handle for the cart and a carrying strap at one side of the golf club holder whereby the latter may be carried, if desired. l
A further object of the invention is to provide a golf club cart composed of a frame in which a. plurality of tubular golf club holders are positioned for individually holding the golf clubs.
A still further object is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view;
Figure 2 is a rear elevational view;
Figure 3 is a top plan view;
Figure 4 is a vertical sectional view taken on a l line 4-4 of Figure 2;
Figure 5 is an enlarged transvers sectional view taken on a line 5-4: of Figure 1 and showing the locking means for the handle;
Figure 6 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view taken on a line 5-43 of Figure 5;
Figure 7 is an enlarged group perspective view of the adjustable means for the wheels; and
Figure 8 is a perspective view of the cover for the cart.
Referring now to the drawings in detail wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention, the numeral 5 designates the frame of the cart generally and which comprises a U-shaped frame member 6 preferably constructed of tubular metal and to the upper ends of which a top plate 1 is welded or otherwise suitably secured, while the lower portion of the frame 6 passes through a bottom plate 8 and is Welded thereto so that the leg portion of the U-shaped frame member 6 adjacent the lower end of the latter.
The top plate I and bottom plate 8 are formed with downwardly extending flanges l and II respectively to provide a finish and eliminate sharp edges on the plate.
A plurality of tubes l2 are preferably arranged 11 front and rear rows and may b constructed of heavy cardboard, metal or other suitable material and have their lower ends resting on top of th bottom plate 3 and pass upwardly through openings 13 in the intermediate plate 9 and upwardly through openings I4 in the top plate 1.
A pair of brackets or plates I are welded or otherwise suitably secured to the side of the U-shaped frame member 6, immediately below the intermediate plate 9 and to the outer surface of which .a disc it having a toothed surface is welded or otherwise suitably secured. A threaded'pin or' stud l1 projects laterally from the disc I 6 and on which a second toothed disc is on an upper end of an arm which has a stub shaft 2| at its lower end for mounting a wheel 22 thereon, the arm providing a swingable mounting for the wheel to vertically adjust th latter.
The top plate I is formed with an upwardly extending socket 23 to removably receive the lower end of a handle 24. A locking pin 25 is slidably carried transversely of the socket 23 and projects outwardly at opposite sides of the socket. The central portion of the locking pin is notched as shown at 26 and is formed with spaced apart teeth or looking dogs 21. Coil springs 28 are positioned on the outer end of the pin 25 and held against heads 29 at the ends of the pin and the inner end of the handle 24 is formed with a longitudinal slot 30 to receive and the inner end of slot lid is formed with a lateral or re-entrance slot 3| in which the dogs or teeth 21 are engaged to lock the handle in the socket.
By pushing the locking pin 25 inwardly at either side of the handle the locking teeth or dogs 21 will be disengaged from the lateral or re-entrance slot 3| and the handle may then be removed from the socket 23.
vice will be quite lar holders 12, when the device is not in use, and
formed at the upper end the heads of the golf clubs.
a neck portion 36 is of the cover to enclose The lower end of U-shape'd frame member 6 projects below lower plate 8 to formfa prop 37 to support the cart in an inclined position.
In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the deapparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is ac cordingly deemed unnecessary.
It is tobe understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of. the invention as herein described and the" scope of the appended claims.
Having described my invention, what is claimed as new is:
'1. A golf club cart comprising a U-shaped frame having spaced leg portions and a con"- necting web, upper and lower plates fixed to the frame, in a position so that the lower end of the frame projects below the lower plate to form a prop, forward and rear groups of tubes supported in a vertical position by said plates in front of and behind the plane of the frame member respectively, and with the lower ends of the tubes closed by the lower plate and the upper ends of the tubes open and adapted to hold in.- dividual golf clubs placed therein, whee1 mountings attached to the sides of the U-shaped frame, and a handle centrally attached to the upper plate and having a straight portion spaced equidistant from and parallel to said leg portions.
2. A golf club 'cart comprising a U-shaped frame member including spaced leg portions and a connecting web between the lower ends of said legportions, a top plate fixed to the upper ends of said leg portions, a bottom plate fixed to the lower ends of said leg portions above said connecting web, a connecting plate fixed to said leg portions intermediate the ends thereof, wheels pivotally adjustably mounted on. said leg portions below-said connecting plate, a hand grip removably engaging said top plate, a forward 7 group of spaced parallel club holding tubes se cured to said connecting, top and bottom plates and having their long axes lying in a plane parallel to and in front of the plane of the frame member, and a rear group of spaced parallel club holding tubes secured to said connecting, top and. bottom plates and having their long axes lying in a plane parallel to and behind the plane of the frame member.
