A TTOENE A1, t AH w F om/LE8 Patented Jan. 12, 1954 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE GOLFERS ACCESSORY Alvah W. Fowler, Fort Worth, Tex.
Application June 20, 1949, Serial No. 100,256
2 Claims. 1
This invention relates to golfers accessories, and the like, and it has particular reference to a device adapted to be attached to the wearer's belt and conveniently accessible for carrying balls, and other accessories, and its principal object resides in the provision of a light and economical structure capable of being formed of metal, plastics, and the like, and affording a convenient receptacle for extra balls as well as for golfing tees, and may be employed for the purpose of carrying a score pad and pencil, affording a compact and simple arrangement whereby these accessories can be conveniently carried andstored when not in use.
An object of the invention resides in the provision of a simple and inexpensive structure which may be readily formed by die stamping or casting, depending upon whether or not sheet metal or plastics are employed, and in which ail of the appurtenances of the device can be formed in one integral unit readily attachable to or re movable from the belt of the golfer at will and to afford a packaged unit which may be maintained for use at all times and capable of being quickly attached to the belt when it is desirable to utilize the equipment.
Broadly, the invention contemplates the provision of a convenient accessory for golfers which may be maintained always in readiness for use and provide a convenient means for aiding in maintaining such equipment as balls and tees, and similar articles, in proper and usable condition when such use is desirable.
While the foregoing objects are paramount, other and lesser objects will become manifest as the description proceeds, taken in connection with the appended drawings wherein:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of the invention, illustrating the arrangement of upper tee receptacles and the lower ball receptacles, showing in broken lines, a series of tees arranged in the upper receptacles.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary end elevational view of the invention showing a ball supported in the lower bracket.
Figure 3 is a plan view of the invention, and
Figure 4 illustrates the invention, in elevation, shown operatively attached to the wearer's belt and illustrating an arrangement of tees and balls supported therein.
The invention'comprises a plate or body member I0 which is slightly curved in horizontal section, in the manner shown in Figure 3, to conform to the waist of the wearer when applied to a belt H, in the manner illustrated in Figure 4.
The body [0 has integral attaching brackets H which are turned rearwardly from each end and arranged opposite each other, as shown in Figure 3, and has downwardly projecting members l2 adapted to be hooked over the belt I l to support the assembly.
Along the upper edge of the body i0 is arranged a series of integral receptacles I3 which are separated by slits I l and spaced thereabout, as shown in Figures 1 and 3, and having apertures l5 therein to receive the shank E6 of tees i1, illustrated in broken lines in Figure 1, and in elevation in Figure 4. The receptacles l3 are provided by a series of divisions, which are separated by the slits l4, bent outwardly, at right angles from the normal vertical plane of the body It, thence downwardly and slightly inwardly, as shown in Figure 2, so that they are slightly tensioned against the shank it of the tees I! and have bosses [8 formed on their lower ends, and extending inwardly as shown in Figure 2, to provide suitable means for retaining the tees I! in their upright position.
The brackets 19 for supporting the balls 20 are also integral with the body Hi and extend outwardly, at right angles therefrom, and curve upwardly and then outwardly in the manner shown in Figure 2, to provide a tensioned arrangement of members 2| which afiord independent receptacles for the balls 20 and present the same to accessibility to the open portions 22 in the front of the brackets [9, as shown in Figures 1 and 4, the balls 30 projecting partially through the openings 22 in the manner shown in Figure 2.
It is desirable that the invention be formed of sheet aluminum or any type of sheet plastics and that the material employed be of such flexibility as to afiord a certain amount of tension for retaining the tees I1 and the balls 20 therein to prevent their being dislodged in the activities of the wearer. A score card 23, shown in broken lines in Figures 1 and 2 may be inserted behind the balls 20 against the vertical plate or body 10 and conveniently carried by the device. A pencil 24, illustrated in broken lines in Figure 1, may also be carried in one of the receptacles 13 at the top of the body Hi.
It is contemplated that the invention may be produced in a variety of forms and materials, as desired, by persons skilled in the art, without departing from the spirit and intent of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. In a golfing accessory, the combination comprising a supporting plate having formed therewith a plurality of ball clips extending from the lower edge of said plate and turned upwardly and inwardly, the said clips being tensioned and having open slots in their outer faces, a series of integral tensioned clips formed along the upper edge of said plate opposite said ball clips and having depending flanges thereon, and means formed with said plate for attachment thereof to the belt of the wearer.
2. In a golfing accessory, the conibinatiqn t a supportingbody comprising a plate adapted to be suspended on the users belt, a plurality of open ball receptacles formed integral with said plate along its lower edge and extending ont: wardly therefrom, the said receptacles bin'g substantially inverted U-shaped in term, defining openings in their outer walls pzgqviding access to said balls, and a series of individual integral clips" formed along the upper edge of said plate opposite said ball receptacles and having apertures therein,
ALVAH W. FOWLER.
