HAMMOCK-FRAME.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 264,033, dated September 5, 1882.

The present invention has relation to certain new and useful improvements in that class of hammock frames or supporters provided at the ends of the supporting-rail with tripods adapted to fold up against said rail when not in use.

It is the object of the present invention to provide means for attaching the ends 'of the hammock, whereby the strain and weight will come directly against and upon the extreme ends of the supporting-rail, thereby lessening the danger of tipping over the frame by the swinging of the occupant in the hammock, also providing the frame with a suitable awning detachably connected to the supportingrail. These several objects I attain by the construction, substantially as shown in the drawings, hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying drawings, A B represent the two sections of the supporting-rail, detachably connected together by a sleeve, 0, said sleeve being securely fastened to one of the sections B. The meeting ends of the sections A B of the rail are beveled, as shown at a, so that when together they will form a splice firmly held and encircled by the metal sleeve 0, thus making a strong, durable, and simple means of fastening the ends of the railsections.

To the sides of the outer ends of the railsections A B are secured ironplates b, of sufficient length to extend down below the ends of the rail-sections. Between the plates 1) are pivoted the central supporting-leg c, the end thereof coming directly under the rail-sections, upon which said sections rest when the frame is in use.

To the outer sides of the plates b and railsections A B are pivoted legs d e by a bolt,

f, which passes through ears 9 on the ends of the legs and through the sides of the railsections. These legs 0 d 0 form together the usual tripods at each end of the supportingrail, and when not in use are folded up against the rail-sections when they have been separated.

To the extreme outer end of the rail-see tions A B are suitably connected large curved metal rings D, of considerable thickness and strength. These rings D are of peculiar shape, being oblong and curved upward at their ends Where connected to the ends of the rail-sections, and pass around the central legs 0, as shown more clearly in Fig. 3. To the inner ends of these rings the ends of the hammock E are connected, and, as will be seen, the strain and weight come directly on the ends of the supporting-rail in a direction at an angle, thereby lessening the danger of overturning the frame when occupant of the hammock swings to and fro, or in getting in or out of it, as the case may be.

The sections A B of the supporting-rail have each a staple, h, for engaging therewith hooks 43 upon the upper side of cross-bars F, to which is secured a suitable awning, G.

The bars F, with awning G attached, can be readily removed when not required for use, and rolled up, making a very neat and practical awning attachment.

Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, ise 1. The combination, with the supporting rail-sections A B, having beveled ends a, and metal sleeve G, of the pivoted legs 0 d c and curved rings D, connected to the extreme ends of the rail-sections, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

2. The supporting railsections A B, sleeve r O, and pivoted legs 0 d e, and the rings D, connected to the ends of the rail-sections, in combination with the detachable cross-bars F, having connected thereto the awning G, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
