This invention relates to improvements in container and rack for holding and pressing neekties.

"The principal objects of this invention are:

First, to provide a container for one or more neckties with a foldable rack that will engage and stretch the ties when the container is closed.

Second, to provide a necktie container with a tie holding rack on which ties may be easily threaded or removed.

Third, to provide a container and rack having the foregoing features which is simple and economical to manufacture yet entirely effective to keep neckties neatly arranged and pressed.

Other objects and advantages of my invention will be apparent from a consideration of the following description and claims.

The drawings, of which there are two sheets, illustrate one preferred form and one modified form of my container and rack.

box 2, although the thickness of the box is not particularly material. The cover 3 for the box may be entirely separate from the box or hinged thereto as 's desired, and in the example illustrated is separable from the box. The box and cover may be made of any suitable permanent or semi-permanent material and I contemplate molding the same from plastic materials.

At one end of the box is provided a pair of inwardly extendng bosses or thickened portions l which are transversely bored to receive the pinthe inner pivoted end of the rack are the inner rack bar e, outer rack bar ID and presser bar l l, the latter being positioned on the extreme outer end of the side member. The bent Wire type of Construction illustrated is convenient in forming these cross bars in that one side of the double wire side bar may be bent into laterally extending loops which form the cross bars. Desirably, the inner rack bar S is provided with an inwardly facing book portion |2 and the outer rack bar lil is provided with an outwardly facing hook portion !3.

The rack 6 is bowed longitudinally so as to be downwardly concave when folded into the carton. As is most clearly illustrated in Fig. 2, this causes the inner rack bar 9 and outer rack bar IU to be spaced substantially above the bottom of the box 2 when the presser bar l l is resting upon the bottom of the box. The under surface of the cover 3 is provided With an inwardly or downwardly extending rib I i (see Fig. 2) which projects into the box when the cover is closed and bears against the outer rack bar I!) to substantially depress the rack bar and straighten out' the rack 5. The compressed positions of the outer rack bar and presser bar are indicated by the dotted lines at !BA and IIA, respectively.

The manner of placing neckties on the rack is most clearly illustrated in Fig. 3 in which the 'ack is shown in upwardly unfolded or extended position. With the rack thus located, it is a simple matter to fold the necktie once near its middle and slide the fold over the outer rack bar I!) so that the necktie is supported thereby as at !5. The two sides of the necktie are then brought together and threaded between the inner rack bar 3 and the base cross member 'I as is shown at !6 and the ends of the tie are laid out flat in the bottom of the box as shown. It will be appreciated that more than one necktie can similarly be mounted on'the rack. After the ties have been placed on the rack and across the bottom of the box, the rack is folded downwardly into the box so that the presser bar en'gages the end or ends of the tie. When the cover is closed on the box depressing the outer rack bar !0, the presser bar tightly engages the end of the necktie and stretches it longitudinally while the inner rack bar 9 apples an opposite stretchng tension to the necktie. The tie is thus placed under substantial tension while being held in fiat position and this tension functions to prevent wrinklng of the tie and to straighten out any existing wrinkles while the tie is stored in the container.

In the modified form of a container andrack illustrated in Fig. 4, the box 2A is substantially the same as the box 2 except that the thickened bosses 4A are positioned along a longitudinal side of the box. The rack GA is of single wire construction and folds transversely rather than longitudinally into and out of the box. The rack BA is provided with the same rack bar 9, rack bar I and presser bar H as in the preferred form of my invention and it will be understood that the rack is desirably bowed longitudinally to function in the same manner as the preferred form of rack. Downward bowing and elongation of the modified rack GA are accommodated by' sliding movement of the pintle portions' EA into the bcsses iA. r

Both forms of my container and rack are particularly useful for holding ties' in suitcases or luggage while traveling as they prevent wrinkling` of the ties. The containers are further useful in Conveniently supporting and displaying several ties for selection when the racks are folded out of the boxes.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: i

1. A necktie carrying case comprising, an elongated box, a' cover for said box, an elongated frame of folded wire having one end pivotally mounted within one end of said box and having a longitudinallyextending side member positioned. along one side of the box, an inner rack bar extending laterally from said side member adjaoent the pivoted end of said rack, an outer rack bar: extending laterally from saidiside meinber and positiored toward the opposite end of said box-from' said inner bar, and a presser bar extending laterally from the swinging end of said` rack and positioned outwardly from said outer bar to engage the bottom of the box closely adjacent the opposite end thereof from said inner rack bar, said rack being substantially bowed in downwardly concave direction, said cover having a depending portion on the under side thereof positioned to engage and depress saidouter rack bar When said cover is closed.

2. A necktie carrying case comprising, an elongated'box, a cover for said box, an elongated rac-l: ofiolded` wire having a longitudinally extending 'side member of'two wire strands positioned along one side of of the box, pintles turned outwardly from said' strands and pivoted into the side walls of said box adjacent one end thereof, an inner rack bar extendng laterally from said. side member adjacent the pivoted end of said rack, an outer rack bar extending laterally from ,said side member and positioned toward the opposite. end of said box from said inner bar, and a presser bar extending laterally from the swnging endlof said rack and positioned outwardly from said outer bar toengage the bottom of the box closel y adjacent the opposite end thereof from said inner rack bar, said bars being formed by loop extensions of one of said strands, said rack being substantially bcwed longitudinally in down- ,Wardly concave direction, said cover having a depending portion on the under side 'thereof postoned to engage and depress said outer y rack bar and side member when said cover is closed. v

4. A necktie carrying case comprising, an elongated box a cover for said box, an elongated rack having one end pivotally mounted within one end, of said box and having a longitudinally extending side member positioned along one side of the' box, an inner rack bar extending laterally from said side member adjacent the pivoted end of, said rack-an outer racl; bar extending laterally from said side member and' positioned toward the e opposite end of said box from said inner bar, and a presser bar extending laterally from the swinging end of said rack, and positioned outwardly from said outer bar to engage the bottom of the box closely` adjacent the opposite end thereof from said inner rack bar.

5. A container for neckties comprising, an

elongated shallow box, a rack pivotally mounted' within; said box and along one end thereof, said rack having a downwardly concave bowed side member positioned to liealong one longitudinal side of: said box, a first laterally'projecting rack bar Secured to said side member adjacent one end of said box, a second laterally projecting rack bar' secured tosaid' side member and closer r to the opposite end' of said box than said one end thereof, and a' laterally extending presser bar projecting from said side member closely adjacent said opposite end of said box, said rack bars having hook portions on their ends turned toward the adjacent ends of the box.

6. Acontainer for neckties comprising, an elongated shallow box,-a rack pivotally mounted within.said box, saidlrack having a downwardly` concave bowed side member positioned to lie along one longitudina'l side of said box, a first laterally projecting rack bar Secured to said side member adjacent one end of said box, a second laterally projecting rack' bar Secured to said. side member,

and Closer to the opposite end of said box than said one end thereof, and a laterally extending presser` bar projecting from said side member closelyadjacent said opposite end of 'said box.

7. A container for neckties comprising, an elongated shallow box, a rack pivotally mounted within said box and along a side thereof, said rack having a downwardly concave bowed side' 'rackl 'unconnected to the box and adapted to lie along one` end thereof, said rack having a downwardly concave bowed side member positioned to lie along one longitudinal side, of said box, a
