e and exact description of the invention, such as PATENT OFFICE.
STEPHEN D. SHATTUOK, OF COHOOTON, YORK.
MARKING-TAG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 254,057, dated February 21, 1882,
' Application filed December 31, 1851. N5 model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STEPHEN D. SHATTUCK, of Oohocton, in the county ofSteuben and State of New York, vhave invented certain new and usefulImprovementsin Marking-Tags; andI do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear,
will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawiug, which forms part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in hooks used for suspending articleswhich are exposed for sale; and it consists in forming one hook at one end of the wire for catching into the article and another hook at the other end of the wire for catching over the wire or cord upon which the article is to be suspended, and forming an eye at the center of the wire in which the tag is tobe held, as will be more fully described hereinafter.
The object of my invention is to produce a suspension-hook for articles which is provided I with a means for holding the tag entirely separate from the article, so that the price marked upon the tag can be referred to at a glance without having to take the article down or move the article around in such a manner as to bring the tag into view.
The accompanying drawing represcn ts a perspective of my invention.
A represents a piece of wire,'which is made sufficiently strong to support such articles as are hung up for exhibition in stores, and which has a hook, B, at one end to catch over the cord, wire, or other support upon which the a'rticles are suspended, and a hook, D, at its other end for catching in or hanging the article itself upon.
. In order to keep the tag entirely separate frointhe article, so that it can be readily re-- rection the tag will always hang in position v where it can be consulted at a glance. Where no such provision is made for keeping the tag separate and independent of the article the article has generally to be moved around upon its hook so as to find the tag, and thus articles have to be unnecessarily handled and are frequently misplaced.
Having thus described my invention, I claim- As an improved article of manufacture, a double hook, to be used in suspending articles exposed for sale, and which is provided with an eye or bend near its center, into which the tag is made to catch, substamially as shown.
In testimony whereof I affix my signaturein presence of two witnesses.
STEPHEN n. srrATTUoK.
