The present invention relates to new and useful improvements in manicuring means of a type such as is disclosed in my U. S. Letters Patent No. 1,900,028, dated March 7, 1933, and more particularly to a disc-like member having different types of abrasive and polishing material carried at its opposite surfaces.

A further object of the invention is to provide an article of this character preferably constructed of plastic material and including cupshaped members at its opposite surfaces in which the abrasive and polishing elements are recessed and constructing the edges of one of said cupshaped members with nail cleaning elements.

A still further object is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.

Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view showing the deviceinuse;

Figure 2 is a view in elevation showing one side of the manicuring device;

Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 33 of Figure 2;

Figure 4 is a perspective view;

Figure 5 is a view in elevation of an opposite side of the device; and,

Figure 6 is an edge elevational view thereof.

Referring now to the drawings in detail wherein for the purpose of illustration I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the invention the numeral 5 designates a disc-like member preferably constructed of plastic or other suitable material and formed with an internal annular flange 6 adjacent one surface of the disc to provide a cup-like member 1 at one surface of the disc. The flange 6 forms a central opening 8 in the disc.

The surface of the disc 6 at the base of the cup-like member I is flat, and imbedded in the material of the fiange or otherwise suitably secured to the surface thereof is an abrasive sheet 9, such as emery, carborunduin grit, or the like, the abrasive sheet 9 being in the form of a segment of a ring, and a second segment I0, which completes the ring and is preferably of chamois skin, is also suitably secured to the flat surface of the flange 6.

The Wall of the cup-like member 1 adjacent the c-hamois skin segment I0 is cut away as shown \at H on the plane of the segment i0 and at each end of the cut away portion II, the wall is cut to form one edge of prongs 12, which are separated from the adjacent ends of the wall by slots 13. The prongs 12 form fingernail cleaners and are used for cleaning under the fingernails by moving the outer edge of the nail through the slot l3.

The wall of the cup-like member 1 opposite its cut-away portion II is also formed with a generally rounded tooth-like fingernail cleaning member l4 designed particularly for cleaning substantially long fingernails.

The side of the flange 6 opposite from the abrasive segment 9 and bufling segment 10 is of substantially a hollow cone shape as shown at I5 and to the surface of which is suitably secured a ring I6 of abrasive material.

In the use of the invention, the finger to be manicured is placed at one side of the disc 5 with the nail in contact with one of the abrasive surfaces as shown in Figure 1 of the drawings and the nail is filed by a rotary motion of the disc. The cut-away portion H in the wall of the cup-like portion 1 of the disc provides unobstructed access to the buffer pad I0.

In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings it is believed that a clear understanding of the construction, operation and advantages of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.

It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended claim.

What I claim is:

A manicuring device comprising a disk-like member, an interrupted wall rising from one surface of the member, and a fingernail bufiing element secured on the surface of the member, said wall being open at one side for receiving a fingernail for buffing on said bufling element.
