3 Claims.
The present invention relates to hermetical containers and more particularly to containers comprising an internal body made principally of a soft or pliable material, and an external casing made of a stiff material which constitutes a protective enclosure or covering for the formerly mentioned internal container.
Containers enclosed by protective coverings are already known and have already been used, but the majority of these have proved to lack hermetical properties sufficient to avoid, not only external leakage, but also leakage between the internal and external containers, thus rendering it almost impossible to eliminate the troubles caused thereby, particularly in connection with liquid and the like containers.
It is a well known fact that the great majority of this type of container use the particular structure built up by directly mounting one body inside the other, which requires the use of a separate sealing device 'for each container, and other complicated elements for securing therequisite tightness, which elements, however, not always avoid the internal leakage likely to occur during transportation.
In accordance with the present invention the container is so constructed, that as a main feature it will comprise a single unit device providing a seal which will afford complete sealing effect both in the direct access to the inner pliable container and in the relation thereof with the outer protective casing.
A further object of the present invention is to provide an embodiment which, with the use of a plug secured to the top portion of the outer casing, will firmly hold the neck of the inner pliable container thus making it possible to fill and seal the said container Without the use of any special holding or retaining means.
Yet another object of the present invention is to make the inner container hermetical, in relation to the outer body, with the use of a ringshaped gasket which does not interfere with the direct access for filling and emptying the internal container.
A further object of this invention is to produce solid and cheap containers by using cardboard or any other similar material, to replace tinplate in the construction of the side walls, and to provide such containers, internally, with materials that will keep unchanged the products contained while remaining unafifected by said products.
A still further object of this invention is to provide a container in which the walls of the inner pliable bag, will be independent from the outer covering that encloses it, for the purpose of avoiding any damage that might be caused to the walls of the inner container resulting from blows or similar undesirable effects that may injure the outer casing.
Other advantages and features of the present invention will be apparent in the course of the complete specification that follows; for a better understanding of the invention, various views in the accompanying drawings illustrate by way of example, one of the preferred forms of carrying it into practice.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a section of the top portion of the outer casing and pliable bag, with the plug and neck respectively disconnected, but disposed in alignment for fixing the latter in the former.
Fig. 2 is a section of the top portion of the container in its embodiment, showing how the plug and the neck are coupled together for forming a single unit ready for receiving the liquid or other product to be contained within the vessel.
Fig. 3 is a section of the container fulland sealed.
Through all the figures of the drawings, the same letters and numerals of reference indicate same or equivalent parts.
With reference to thedrawings, a is the flexible or pliable bag which may be made of a thin sheet of synthetic rubber, rubber impregnated webbing or any other suitable material.
The said pliable bag a is placed or enclosed Within the casing b, provided with side walls I made of cardboard or any other cheap suitable material, while the upper part 2 and bottom part 3 are made, preferably, of tinplate.
Both upper and bottom parts 2 and 3, respectively, have their outer edges strongly pressed against the walls I, as shown in Fig.'3, thus constituting casing b, a solid structure for affording a proper protection to the bag a.
As can be readily seen, the upper part 2 is highly concave in shape and is provided at its central portion, with the plug b which at its inner surface presents a threaded portion 4.
Threaded portion 4 has its entrance at the underside for receiving the neck a and abuts providing an annular seat 5, intended to receive a ring-shape gasket 6. Finally, the plug b has an upper opening or mouth I provided with a lip or salient flange 8 which, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, is slightly bent outward so as to form a sealing surface for the lid 9 which is applied by diestamping or otherwise.
Neck a is for-med of a double wall where the abutting neck IU of the bag 2 is inserted, it being readily understood that both walls of the neck a perform a pressing action that holds the abutting neck I0, thus providing a liquid-tight joint. Under such conditions, neck a may be considered to constitute an integral part with the bag a.
The neck a of bag a has a threaded portion I I which coincides with the threaded portion 4 of the plug-b and, as it appears in the relative positions of Figs. 1 and 2, neck a is inserted through the inner part of plug b in such a way that, once threaded into position, the neck a becomes coupled within the plug b.
When neck a is driven into the threaded portion 4 of plug b, the upper edge I2 of neck a is from passing between the walls of casing b and the bag a. N
Once the neck a is inserted between the plug b' both form a single body.
The neck a being threaded in the internal position of plug b, the mounting of casing b must be accomplished at the end of the assembling operation; explained otherwise, the bag a is secured firstly to the neck a and then threaded on to the plug b. After completing these operations, casing b is formed by die-stamping or otherwise joining the upper portion 2 and the bottom portion 3 to the walls I, thus forming bag a as seen in Fig. 2.
The container thus formed has a single opening 1 for the whole device, such opening being provided by the joining of the neck a and the plug b as described. Opening I, as is obvious. gives access to the internal space enclosed by the flexible or pliable bag a.
It is through said opening I that the container is filled being then finally sealed by means of the lid or cap 9 which is provided with a fixing flange 9' for being die-pressed or otherwise secured to the lip or edge 8 of opening I. Cap 9 may be made to produce hermetic closing efi'ect with the use of a packing such as l3.
Briefly stated, the invention comprises an outer casing of stiff material, acting as a protective covering for a bag or the like made of a flexible or pliable material thereby enclosed, the device being characterized in that the bag has a neck practice, but without departing from the scope thereof which is more clearly set forth in the appended claims.
Having now particularly described and ascertained the nature of this invention and how the same is to be performed, I declare that what I claim is:
1. In combination, a pliable bag having a neck at the top thereof, a hollow plug having spaced inner and outer walls for receiving said neck therebetween, the outer wall having external threads thereon, a protective casing member, a hollow plug element on said casing member having lower and upper portions, said lower portion having internal threads for engaging said external threads, and a leakage proof packing between said upper portion and the first-mentioned plug.
2. In combination, a pliable bag having a neck at the upper end thereof, a hollow plug member having spaced inner and outer walls for receiving said neck therebetween, a protective casing having a hollow plug member for surrounding the first-mentioned plug member, leak-proof coupling means between said plug members, and an outwardly flanged lip at the mouth of one of said members for receiving a chucked lid,
3. In combination, a pliable bag having a neck, a hollow plug having spaced inner and outer walls for receiving said neck therebetween, the outer wall having threads on the exterior thereof, a protective casing member having a hollow plug, the last-mentioned plug comprising lower and upper portions, threads on interior of said lower portion for engaging said external threads, said upper portion having an internal flange overlying the upper end of the first mentioned plug, and a packing seal engaged between said flange and said upper end.
