This invention relates to means in conjunction with hand coverings, suchas gloves and mittens, for retaining the same captive when not being worn and so keep them from becoming lost.

An object of the invention is the provision of means of the indicated character which in nonfunctioning position will be disposed Within the hand covering in such a manner as to be completely concealed and also preserve a substantially smooth contour of the covering without nection with the accompanying drawing, in

Referring now more particularly to Fig. 4 of the drawing, it will be apparent that the device consists of a single piece of tape In or strip of material of required length which may be of woven or textile fabric or any other suitable soft and readily flexible material. ed upon itself to provide interconnected portions H, I2 and I3 respectively. Cooperative separable fastener elements I4 and I5 are secured to the adjacent ends, respectively, of the portions II and I2 and similar fastener elements I6 and I! The tape is foldare secured to the adjacent ends, respectively, of the portions I2 and I3. The portion II has the opposite ends thereof secured in any suitable manner as by tacking or stitching indicated at I8, to the cuff portion of the glove IS on the inside thereof and extending lengthwise at or near the entrance end edge thereof. The element I5 may be engaged with the element I4 and the element I1 may be engaged with the element IE to thus retain the portions I2 and I3 interiorly of the glove in sideby-side relation to the'portion II. In this manner the device when not in use will be in a non-functioning position completely concealed while preserving a substantially smooth contour of the glove and without being uncomfortable to the wearer.

When it is desired to retain the gloves captive or to arrest the same while the person has removed the gloves for any purpose, the element I5 may be disengaged from the element I4, thereby enabling the portions I2 and I3 to be brought to a functioning position exteriorly of the glove. These portions I2 and I3, together with the elements I6 and I1, constitute loop-forming means. By disengaging the element H from the element I6, the loop-forming portions I2 and I3 are separated in order to engage such appurtenances as rings on handbags and other accessories, and also belts and bracelets to retain the gloves captive and so prevent them from becoming lost while not in use. When the elements I6 and H are engaged the loop formed by the portions I2 and I3 may be engaged with hooks or open loops to suspend the glove, or a person may extend a finger through the loop to conveniently carry the glove,

In Figs. 5 and 6 there is shown a simplified form of device which consists of a single piece of tape 20 or strip of material having the characteristics mentioned above. The tape 20 is bent upon itself to provide portions 2| and 22, respectively joined by a bight 23. Cooperative separable fastening elements 24 and 25 are secured to adjacent ends, respectively, of the portions 2I and 22. opposite ends of the portion 2I are sewn to the glove as at 26 crosswise and interiorly thereof. The portions ill and 22 together with the elements 24 and 25 constitute loop-forming means which may be opened by disengaging the elements 24 and 25 and closed by bringing said elements 24 and 25 into cooperative engagement with each other. The loop-forming means when opened may be engaged as explained hereinabove, to retain the glove captive or to arrest the same while it is not being worn. It is to be understood thatthe attaching or suspension means may be applied to various forms of hand coverings, such as mittens and gauntlets, as well as gloves.

I claim:

1. The combination with a hand covering article, of a device for holding said article captive when not in use, said device consisting of a strip of flexible material secured to said article near the entrance end edge thereof in such manner that it may be formed into a loop disposed inside of the article or outside thereof, cooperative fastener elements on the strip to retain the strip in loop formation, and additional cooperative fastener elements on the strip and article respectively to retain the strip in loop formation inside of the article and disengageable so that the strip in loop formation may be disposed outside of the article.

2. The combination with a glove, of a device for strip also having a second portion which may be formed into a loop, cooperative fastener elements on said second portion to maintain the same in loop formation, and additional coperative fastener elements on said first and second portions respectively to retain the second portion inside of said glove and disengageable so that said loop may be disposed outside of the glove.

3. The combination with a hand covering article, of a device for holding said article captive when not in use, said device consisting of a strip of flexible material having an end portion secured to the article at the entrance end edge thereof, and another portion of the strip adapted holding said glove captive when not in use, said to be formed into a loop extending longitudinally of the article either inside or outside with respect thereto, cooperative separable fastener elements secured to said loop forming portion in spaced relation to each other to close or open said loop, and additional cooperative separable fastener elements secured to said loop forming portion and said article respectively to retain said loop inside of thearticle and separable so that the loop may be disposed outside of the article.
