Description
J. C. MOLTRUP.
Plow.
. Patented May 10. 1859 N.PETER8, PHOTO-UTMOGRAPHER. wAsulrlGTON, a. O.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JAMES CQMOLTRUP, OF BUGYRUS, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 23,933, dated May 10, 1859.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J. O. MOLTRUP, of Bucyrus, in the county of Crawford and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Flows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and clear description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon, making part of this specification.
My invention relates to certain improvementsin plows, hereinafter described, by means of which the same plow may be made to cut a wide or narrow, deep orshoal furrow, and all this without increasing the weight or cost of the plow.
Figure l is a side view of my improved plow with all its parts adjusted for use. Fig. 2 is a side view of the adjustable beam and section of the landside of the plow, the moldboard being removed. Fig. 3 is abottom view of said beam and section of landside of plow, showing the device for accomplishing the adjustment of the beam.
A is a mold-board, constructed and attached to the plow in the ordinary manner.
at d is the upper portion of thelandside, the
part 61 from the handles h forward to the cutter d being cast in the form of a segment of a circle, and formed with an upper bearingplate, 01, upon which the bent portion B of the beam B is fitted. The bearing-plate d is formed with the slats c 0, so that the beam B B may be adjusted at any desired position to secure the depth required. Near the end'of the bent portion B of the beam B is a transverse slot, 0, made to allow lateral motion to the beam B, so that the furrow to be cut may be made wide or narrow. The attachment of the beam B B, and also its adjustment, are effected by means of the bolts f b and nuts an. The bolt f passes down between the m old-board and landside, and is attached to the bolt a in such manner as to allow the beam B B to be adjusted backward or forward. \Vhen itmay be required to plow a deep furrow the nuts n n are loosened and the beam B B slipped back upon the plate 61' until the forward end of the beam is sufficiently elevated, when it is again secured by the nuts 11 n, as before described, as shown by red lines, Fig. 2. The lateraladjustment of the beam B B, as shown by red lines in Fig. 3, is efi'ected in a similar manner by means of the slot 0.
, An iron plate maybe attached to the end of the bent portion B of the beam B, and provided with a transverse slot to be used in place of the slot c,- but I prefer the construction herein described.
4 What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
Giving the beam B B longitudinal and verticalimotion by means of the bearing-plates d, slotsvc 0, short rear bolt, b, and long vibrating front bolt, f, all the said parts being arranged and combined substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
JAS. G. MOLTRUP.
