A. EGLI GUIDE MECHANISM FOR ROLLING SHUTTERS AND THE LIKE Filed Nov. 8, 193a Fig.1 2
ALBERT E6 1 & ATTQRNEYS Patented Nov. 5, 1940 GUIDE MECHANISM FOR ROLLING SHUTTERS AND THE LHKE Albert Egli, Como, Italy Application November 8, 1938, Serial No. 239,467 In Great Britain September 30, 1938 3 Claims.
My invention relates to improvements in guide rails for rolling shutters fastened to the sash outside and to be used in combination with outwardly opening casement windows; and the objeets of my improvement are, first, toafford facilities for lowering the shutter when the windows are open; second, to provide protection from atmospheric influences or from sunlight when the windows are open; and, third, to also provide the said protection when the windows are closed.
I attain these objects by the guide rail assembly illustrated, by way of one form of invention, in the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a vertical section through the window opening with open easements;
Fig. 2, a similar section with closed easements;
, Fig. 3, a horizontal section through the window opening .with open easements;
Fig. 4, a similar section with closed easements; and
Fig. 5, a view of the window sash with the guide rails and to a larger scale.
The shutter, which is of known type and character, is wound upon the drum I. The guide rails 2 terminate immediately above'the easements 3. The guide rails 4 are disposed on the inside, and the guide rails 5 on the outside of the easements 3Q The said rails 4 and 5 are disposed at exactly the same distance from the point of rotation of the easements so that the rails 5 form an extenv sion of the said rails 2 when the easements are closed, and the rails 4 form an extension of the rails 2 when the easements are open. The guide rails 4 are supported by hinges 1 which allow one-to project them outwardly into an inclined position by means of the toggles 8 and 9.
The holders ill are articulated to the wall dowels II and serve for fixing the open case- -ments on the outside of the house. The guide rails 4 and 5 are of such a cross-section as to form What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. A guide mechanism for rolling shutters and the like for casement windows Opening toward the outside, comprising a pair of vertical guide 5' rails between a winding drum and the top of the sash, a second pair of vertical guide rails secured to the inside of the easements, a third pair of vertical guide rails secured to the outside of the. latter, a plurality of snugs secured to the shutter 10 and engaging the said rails; said guide rails being so arranged that the second pair of guide rails forms the extensions of the first pair of rails when the easements are open, and that the third pair of rails formsthe extensions of the 15 first pair of rails when the easements are closed.
2. A guide mechanism for rolling shutters and the like of the class described comprising a pair of vertical guide rails between a winding drum and the top of the easements, a second and a third pair of such rails respectively secured to the inside and the outside of the easements and forming extensions of the saidfirst pair respectively in the open and closed position of the case ments, a plurality of snugs secured to the shutter 25 and in engagement with the said rails, and an articulation in each rail of the second pair permitting of an inclination of the lower portion of the shutter with the easements in the open position. 30
3. A guide mechanism for rolling shutters and the like of the class described comprising a pair "of vertical guide rails of semi-open cross-section ALBERT EGLL
