Description
B. A. SMITH. Buckle Loop fofr Suspender-Ends.
No. 227,592. Patented May 11. I880.
k'PETERB. PNOTUUTNOGRAFHER. WASHINGTON D C.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EARL A. SMITH, OF WATERBURY', CONNECTICUT.
BUCKLE-LOOP FOR SUSPENDER- ENDS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 227,592, dated May 11, 1880.
Application filed January 13, 1880.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, EARL A. SMITH, of Waterbury, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Buckle-Loops for Suspender- Ends; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exactdescription of the same, which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in-
Figure l, a rear view; Fig. 2, a transverse section on line at w; Fig.3, a vertical section; Figs. 4 and 5, the parts detached.
This invention relates to an improvement in a device for attaching Suspender-ends to the buckle, and particularly to that class in which the ends are formed from cord or similar material; and it consists in the construction, as hereinafter described, and particularly recited in the claim. 7
I first cut a blank from sheet metal, as seen in Fig. 4, with two projecting sides, a a, and an upward projection,'b. I make a loop, A, of wire or other suitable material, (see Fig. 5,) with the two ends turned inward. I then place the loop onto the projection I) (see broken lines, Fig. 4) and bend the projection down over the ends of the loop, as seen in Fig. 3. I then place the middle part or upper ends of the Suspender-ends onto the plate, as indicated by broken lines, Fig. 4, and turn the sides a a over and strike them down hard upon the suspender-ends, so as to firmly secure them thereto, and thus, by this single piece, plate, or blank, I connect the hinged loop and suspender-ends together in the firmest possible manner, the loop serving as the means for attachment to the buckle.
I do not broadly claim attaching the loop to Suspender-ends by means of a plate,.portions of which are turned over and upon said ends.
I claim The herein-described improvement in suspender-ends, consisting of the loop A, the projection b of the clasp turned down over the ends of said loop, and the sides aaof the clasp turned over the said projection b and struck down upon the doubled part of the ends, substantially as described.
EARL A. SMITH.'
