1 Claim.

My invention relates to improvements in arm rests and supports for use as an accessory to toilet,

seats, and the primary purpose thereof is to provide a device which is simple and inexpensive in construction adapted to fit over and be removably secured to the usual toilet seat to thereby provide an arm rest and hand grip for aiding the aged, infirm, and physically incapacitated in sitting and rising from the seat.

Another object is to provide a device of the character and for the purpose above set forth comprising a pair of arm rests and supports detachably connected together for location upon opposite sides of the toilet seat and for stacking I one on the other into compact arrangement for storage or shipping purposes.

Still another object is to provide a device of the character and for the purpose set forth adapted for connection to the usual discharge pipe of a flush tank to anchor the device in proper position.

Other and subordinate objects are also comprehended by my invention, all of which, together with the exact nature of my improvements, will be readily understood when the following description and claim are read with reference to the 25 drawing accompanying and forming part of this specification.

Proceeding now with a detailed description of my invention, with reference to the drawing by numerals, in the preferred form thereof, my improved arm rest and supportcomprises a pair of side frames I and 2 for location upon opposite sides of a toilet seat 3, and each comprising a pair 40 of front and rear legs 4 and 5, respectively, supporting a broad arm rest panel 6 on the top thereof at a level above the seat suitable for resting the arms thereon and grasping the same when rising. The panels 6 may be secured to the legs 4 and 5 many suitable manner. The legs 4 and 5 of each pair are permanently connected together by a transverse side bar 1, secured to said legs in any suitable manner at about the level of the top of the toilet bowl 8. A pair of front 50 and rear tie bars 9 and connect the front and rear legs 4 and 5, respectively, the front bar 9 at about the same level as the side bars 1, and the rear bar I0 above the discharge pipe ll of the flush tank l2. together with the front and rear tie bars 9 and I0, and the legs 4 and 5, form a rectangular frame adapted to fit over and around the seat 3 whereby the device is prevented from lateral displacement. A pair of oppositely inclined brace rods 13 extend from the center of the front tie bars 9 downwardly to opposite front legs 4 respectively. The brace rods I3 are secured in position by screws I l. The tie bars 9 and I0 are detachably secured to their respective legs 4 and by means of bolts as at 15. The device is anchored to the aforementioned discharge pipe I l by means of a hooked bolt I6 depending from the rear tie bar It! tohook under said pipe and adjustably secured in said bar by means of a wing nut ll threaded onto said bolt. By removing the screws I4, brace rod l3, and detaching the tie bars 9 and It! together with the bolt llL't-he parts of the described device may be stacked or otherwise arranged in compact form for storage or shipping when desired. By removing the bolt is the assembled device may be lifted and removed from proximity to the seat 3 when desired.

The foregoing description will, it is believed, sufiice to impart a clear understanding .of the construction, use, and advantages of my invention without further explanation, but it is to be understood that the present disclosure is illustrative rather than restrictive, and that right is herein reserved to changes and modifications of details described in the foregoing falling fairly within the scope of the claim appended hereto.

What I claim is:

An arm rest and support for use as an accessory to a toilet seat and attachment to the discharge pipe of a flush tank, comprising a pair of side frames each including a pair of front and rear legs, and an arm rest supported by said legs, a pair of transverse side bars connecting said pairs of legs, respectively, a pair of front and rear tie bars connecting the front and rear legs of said pairs, respectively, said bars forming a rectangular frame adapted to fit over and to surround the edge of the toilet seat and the rear tie bar forming together with the rear legs an open space for the user to lean backward through against the flush tank, and means for anchoring said support to said pipe comprising a hook shaped bolt adapted to take around the pipe and adjustably secured in the rear tie bar.
