- Our invention relates to electric lamp fixtures of thetype adapted'to be attached to tables, desks, machines and other devices. 'Our fixture is so constructed as to allow ready attachment or detachment thereof and also ready adjustment thereof so as to properly position the light source carried thereby. Such adjustment may be vertical and angular and in the preferred embodiment it may also be horizontal.

'Our fixture is so constructed as to allow ready attachment or detachment thereof and also ready adjustment thereof so as to properly position the light source carried thereby. Such adjustment may be vertical and angular and in the preferred embodiment it may also be horizontal. One of the features of our invention is a tube which is clamped to the table or other device so as to allow vertical adjustment and through which the electrical conductors extend. The said tube is bent to cause the lighting unit carried thereby to be positioned over the work. Various other features and advantages of ourinvention will appear from the description which follows of a species thereof and from the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the lamp of our invention; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of a portion thereof on an enlarged scale; Fig. 3. is a section along line 8-4 of Fig. 1, also on an enlarged scale; Fig. 4 is a perspective view 25 of a modifiedsupporting means for our lamp; Fig. 5 is a side elevation of a modification of the lamp of our invention; and Fig. 6 is a plan view of a portion thereof with the lamp broken along lines 6-! of Fig. 5.
30 The light producing element in our lamp, as shown in Fig. 1, is the incandescent lamp III which is mounted in the socket Ii on the end of hollow extension II. The socket II is provided with a husk IS in which the end of the bowl I is fastened by means of thumb screws Ii. The bowl it is preferably made of translucent opal glass and supports on its upper edge the shade it which is preferably opaque and of metal. One end of the extension l2 extends into the end of 0 tube l1 and is clamped in the desired position therein by the shoe l8 which is pushed inwardly by thumb screw l9 as shown in Fig. 2. The screw it is threaded in a collar which is carried by the'end of tube I1 and which keeps the 5 shoe l8 in'line since it straddles the sides of the narrowest portion thereof. The telescoping feature of tube l1 and extension l2 permits the horizontal extent of the lamp to be varied.
The light distributing unit already described is supported in the enbodiment shown in Fig. l by means of the clamp 2| which is fastened to the top of a table 22, desk or the like, by thumbscrew 23. In Fig. 4 is shown a modified supporting means for the light distributing unit. This means comprises clamp II which is fastened to the table by thumbscrew 23 and the collar 22. which nor- -mally rests against the top of the The collar 22" fixes the vertical position of the lighting unit and in this instance is attached to although it may be attached by some more permanent means as I no adjustment is usually necessary. A ridge 24' 15 is provided in the lower face of collar 22' which enters into the notch 25' in the clamp 2i. This feature provides means for holding the lighting unit in one position over the table. 1
- The species of our invention shown in Fig. 5 is 20 as those used in compiling statistics. The light distributing unit in this instance is the same as shown in Fig. 1 and it is supported by a stand- The collar 21 and boss 29 are securely fastened 25 to the opposite ends of the sleeve 28 and the end of tube l1 which extends into sleeve 28 is held in position by the thumbscrew II which is threaded in an aperture in collar 21 and sleeve 28. The boss 29 is fastened to the strap 20 which with strap 3| forms means for engaging the machine table 32. The ends of the straps are attached to the table II by screws 38 and the overlapping ends of the straps are secured to each other by screws M. The screws 34 are threaded in strap II and lie in elongated slots in strap 29' which permits the assembly to be shortened or lengthened to the size of the particular table on ating the lamp I0 is conducted from some convenient source by the plug 35 and the double insulated wire 88. The wire 38 passes through i an aperture in boss 29 and sleeve 28 and through the-center of'tube l1 and extension I! to the socket II.
A rack 31 is provided for holding papers in the most desirable position for the machine operator with reference to both machine and light. The rack 31 is provided with a bracket 38 engages fitting 39 on the end of rod 40. The rod 40 issupported by a standard comprised of collar Ii, sleeve 42 and boss ll, the collar ll and boss 43 being attached to opposite ends of the sleeve 42 and the boss being attached to strap 55 clamp Ii.
