Description

c. A. A. TRENOI-IEVENT (19 ST. AUBINr Snap-Hooks.
No. 219,031] Patented Aug. 26,1879;
ATTESTI lNVENTORi .flflefmwoas m N4 PETERS, FNOTO-LITHOGRAPHER. WASHINGTON. D. Q
UNITED, STATES PATENT OFFICE.
(l. A. A. TRENOHEVENT DE ST. AUBIN, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
IMPROVEMENT IN SN AP-HOOKS I Specification forming part of Letters Patent No 219.031, dated August 26, 1879; application filed July 7, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, 0. A. A. TRENOHEVENT DE ST. AUBIN, of the city of St. Louis, in the State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Snaps, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
This snap is more especially intended for application in the hitch-strap for which I made application for Letters Patent filed April 5, 1879.
The catch consists of a plate or block of metal extending through the shank, and having upon the side opposite to the hook a finger-loop and a finger-bearing, to enable the snap to be operated when the loop is pressed tightly against the hitch-post or other object. A concealed spring tends to hold the catch in contact with the point of the hook.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view. Fig. 2 shows the catch and part of the shank in side view.
A is the hook, B the shank, and O the eye or loop for the attachment of the strap. The shank is slotted completely through at D to admit the latch-plate E. The latch-plate turns on a pivot at F. It has a projection or point, e, for contact with the point a of the hook A,
and an eye, 6, for the insertion of one of the fingers in handling the snap and the end of the strap to which it is attached.
The latch plate has a bearing horn, 6 against which the back of one of the fingers may be pressed to assist in drawing back the point e from contact with the hook, to allow the snap to be disengaged and to steady the snap in the hand.
,lt will be understood that the eye 0 and the born 6 form an appliance for handling the snap, and the end of the strap to which it is attached, Without passing the fingers around the shank, such appliance being required when the shank lies against an object.
Gis a spring secured to the latch-plate, and whose point 9 has bearing against the shank, as. shown, to hold the point 6 against the hook A when the latch is not drawn back by hand.
Having described my invention, what I claim therein as new, and of my invention, is-
The combination, with the hook part A B O, ot'the latch-plate E, having point 0, eye a, and projection 0 substantially as set forth.
