Description

Oct. 31, 1939. H ROEMlG.A 2,177,786
l CARD'AND KEY CARRIER Filed Aug. 18, 1938 A ttorne ys Patented Oct. 31, 1939 PATENT OFFICE CARD AND KEY CARRIER Joseph H. Roemig, Allentown, Pa.
Application August 18,
3 Claims.
This invention relates to card and key carriers, and has for the. primary object the provision of a pocket device of this character which is especially adapted for automobile owners and drivers whereby the keys of the automobile as Well as the operators license card and identification card may be carried by the device so that the danger of not having the keys or kthe card when operating the automobile will be obviated.
With these and other objects in View, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described f and claimed,
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation illustrating the carrier in a position for placing in a pocket of a persons garment.
Figure 2 is a side elevation showing the carrier positioned to display the cards.
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary sectional View illustrating means of detachably connecting the keys on the carrier. y i
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 5 indicates a roller or ,cylinder having a slot 6 extending from end to end thereof'. Thev cylinder or roller is provided at its ends with caps 'I the diameter of which is greater than the diameter of the roller or cylinder to act as guides for the rolling on the roller or cylinder a cover 8. A metallic clip 9 is employed for securing one end of the cover in the groove 6, as clearly shown in Figure 3, and consists of a portion IIJ to enter the groove along with the cover to bring about a frictional fit between itself and thek cover and the walls of the groove to prevent accidental separation of the cover from the cylinder or roller 5. The clip 9 further includes an arcuately curved flexible portion II overlying a portion of the roller 5 and having the cover extending thereover, as clearly shown in Figure 3. The flexible curved portion I I tends to flex towards the roller to have a clamping action therewith so that ends of a license card I2 and an identification card I3 may be clamped on the roller 5 with the cover overlying the same. The cards I2 and I3 and cover may be rolled or wrapped about the roller, as shown in Figure 1, to protect the cards from soiling or damage and to render the device compact. separable fasteners I4 are provided on the cover for retaining the latter in a rolled condition.
An elongated split eye I5 is provided with a screw threaded shank IB which may be threaded in one end of the roller 5, as shown in Figure 4. The elongated split eye provides a key ring on which keys I1 of a motor vehicle may be placed.
1938, Serial N0. 225,637
The keys may be brought to lie within the cover, p
of the keys may be removed from the cover for insertion into the lock of the automobile and at any time when it is necessary to display the 1icense card or identification card the cover 8 may be unrolled, as shown in Figure 2. Through the use of the clip and the groove in the roller the cards can be easily removed from the roller and other cards placed thereon when necessary and further the clip retains the cover secured on the roller.
It is believed that the foregoing description, when 'taken in connection with the drawing, will fully set forth the construction and advantages of this invention to those skilled inthe art to which such -device relates so that further detailed description will not be required.
What is claimed is:
1. A carrier comprising a roller having a slot, a spring clip entering said slot and including an arcuately curved spring portion for receiving between itself and the roller ends of cards for securing the cards on the roller whereby the cards may be rolled on the roller, a cover having one end secured in the slot by the clip to overlie the cards and to be Wound on the roller for the protection of the cards. p
2. A carrier comprising a roller having a slot, a spring clip entering said slot and including an arcuately curved spring portion normally flexing toward the roller for receiving between itself and the roller ends of cards for securing said cards on the roller whereby the cards may be rolled on the roller, a cover having one end secured in the slot by the clip to overlie the cards and to be Wound on the roller for the protection of the cards, and separable fasteners provided on the cover for detachably securing the cover in a position wrapped on the roller.
3. A carrier comprising a roller having a slot,
.a spring clip entering said slot and including` an arcuately curved spring portion normally flexing toward the roller to secure between itself and the roller ends of cards whereby the cards may be rolled on the roller, a cover having one end secured in the slot by the clip to overlie the cards and to be Wound on the roller for the protection of the cards, separable fasteners provided on the cover for detachably securing the cover in a position Wrapped on the roller, and `caps secured to the ends of the roller and of diameters greater than the diameter of the roller.
