This invention relates to a ountain attachportion of the member whereby when the flow of V water from the faucet through the device exceeds a certain amount some of the water will pass through the second passage and discharge therefrom in an upwardly directed stream so that one can drink from the stream. Thus one can drink some of the water flowing from the aucet without using a glass or cup and without interfering with the ordinary uses of the faucet.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts to be here- 20. inafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claims. v
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure 1 is an elevation showing the invention applied to a aucet.
Figure 2 is a top plan view of the invention.
Figure 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
While'the drawing shows the device formed of rubber or the like it 's to be understood that the- ,device can be formed of any suitable material.
-As shown in this drawing the device includes a body I having an enlargement 2 at one side thereof, preferably at the front thereof, and said body is formed with a passage or bore 3 passing from its top through its bottom, the upper portion o! the passage or bore being enlarged to' fit over the discharge end a of the faucet A 'as shown in Flgure flor vertical sliding movement thereon and also rotary movement for a purpose presently seen. The lower end of the passage or bore is smaller than the upper portion as shown at'l and ii desire'd non-spash screening 5 may be placed at the junction of the large -part of thepassage with the smaller part, said screening i i limiting-upward sliding of the body l. An up;- wardly and. outwardly sloping small passage i extends from the lower portion of the *large part of the main passage or bore through the part 2 and opens out through the top ot this enlarged part. As will be manifest, by sliding the described device on the discharge end o! the Iaucet 55 A into the described limit of its upward movement the inlet end of the passage 6 may be closed by said end of the aucet and by sliding said device downwardly' out of said limit said passage g may be opened. Thus, when the faucet is open also the passage S the water will pass through 5 the device, as shown at 'I in Figure 1 and if the faucet is only open partially the water will flow through the device and none of the water will escape through the passage 5. However, when the faucet is open to a greater extent the ino creased flow of water cannot all escape through the main passage or bore and then some of this waterwill pass through the passage 6 and discharge therefrom'in an upwardly directed stream as shown at 8 in Figure 1 which will enable one 15 to 'drink from this stream. Of course, the height of this stream 8 will depend on the amount of water flowing from the aucet which, of course, is controlled by the amount 'of opening of the valve of the faucet.
'I'hus one can drink from the water passing from the faucet without using a glass, cup or the like and without touching the device and without getting his hands wet and thus the device makes it possible for one to readily secure a drink from 25 the aucet without danger of contaminating the water so .that the device is absolutely sanitary. Also it is not necessary to remove the device when using the water from the faucet for ordinary uses as the device will not interere with the passage of water from the faucet to a sink or receptacle and by regulating the flow of water from the fa cet by the hand operated valve the water can be made to discharge from the device 'without passing through the passage 6 or it can be made to -eject some ot the water from said passage 6 in order to provide a stream from which the user candrinkfrom., u
As will be seen from Figura 1 the device is so fol-med and the parts so arranged relative to the 0 taucet that it will be practically impossiblejor one to place his mouth in contact with-the device which adds to the sanitary natureof .the 'device and the inclination of the passage i causes the stream 8 to be directed upwardly and forwardly a of the faucet' so that one'can drink from the stream without danger of his head coming in contact with any part of the faucet, w I whenever it is desired not to use the'device as a !ountain it may be used a's ananti -splash device by so positioning the body on the iaucetas to cause the inlet end of the passage i to be' closed by a portion of the taucet with said portion engaging the screen. Then-all the water rrom viding a non-splash attachment for the faucet. In this use` of the devicethe same may be turned on the faucet A to locate the enlargement 2 rearwardly under the faucet A in an out-of-the-way position.
By piacing a perforated piate under the screen the device will form washing or cleaning means for vegetables, dishes, etc.
Of course by positioning the body on the faucet with the inlet oi passage 6 below the faucet and using the screen and periorated plate, the device will form a combined fpuntain, non-splash device and washing and cleaning means. When the device is so used and water tends to pass through the passagei, the user can place his flnger over the upper end of the passage i to stop the escape of water therefrom.
It is thought from the foregoing description that' the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is: i
A fountain attachment for iaucets comprising a single piece sieeve of resilient material having a bore adapting the' same for fitting rotatably over the discharge end of the faucet and upward and downward adjustment thereon, and an upwardly inclined spout' portion extending from one side thereof and including a passage communicating at its lower end with said bore adjacent the lower end of the letter whe'eby said passage may be opened and closed by said faucet under adjustnent of said sieeve downwardly and upwardly to diiterent positions, said sieeve having a partitioning screen in the bore thereof immediately below said lower end of the passage coacting with said faucet under upward adjustment of the sieeve to establish the closing position of the latter, the bore below said screen being re- A duced in diameter toirestrict the discharge of water from said sieeve whereby when the sieeve is adjusted to open the passage water above said screen is caused to jet from said spout portion, said spout portion terminating flush with the upper end ot the sieeve for location under thefaucet in a rearwardiy extending out-ofthe-way position under rotation ot the sieeve.
