Application May 1o, 1931, serial No. 141,857
1 Claim.
The invention relates to a .calf weaning device and more especially a ,calf feeding bottle.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a device or bottle of this character,
wherein through the use thereof a calf can be weaned from its mother and conveniently fed with milk, the device or bottle being of novel construction and can be hung within a stall or from a support for the servicing of a calf.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device or bottle of this character, which is thoroughly reliable and effective in operation, strong, durable, readily and easily lled, enabling the weaning of a calf, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated A in the accompanying drawing, which discloses the preferred embodiment of the invention and pointed out in the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of bottle constructed in accordance with the invenion.
Figure 2' is a top plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is an enlarged vertical longitudinal sectional view, taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2.
Figure'4 is a bottom plan view.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the nipple detached from the bottom.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the'several views in the drawing.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the device or bottle comprises a hollow body I0 preferably made from rubber having inherent flexibility and is of a size to hold a determined quantity of milk to be fed to a cali'. Formed with the body at diametrically opposite points thereof are the circular walled openings Il and I2, respectively, the wall Il for the opening Il being reinforced by a double flanged ring Il having an out-turned edge I5 at its inner end for anchorage in the body a `device or -lapping the edge I0 at the said opening Il while the outer flange 'I6 has struck therefrom screw threads l1 for the separable connection of a closure cap I8 with this ring Il. The cap I8 hasl centrally formed therewith an eye I9 to be engaged by a suspen- 5 sion snap 20 loosely secured at 2l to a support, a portion of the latter being indicated at 22 and this support is preferably located at the proper elevation for the convenient feeding of a calf by the device or bottle. 10
The opening I2 is reinforced by a double flanged ring 23 formed with the anchoring edges 24 and 25, respectively, both inside and outside of the body III while interiorly of this ring 23 are screw threads 2-6 for separable connection of a l5 sucking nipple or tit 21, the latter being formed with a contracted threaded circular coupling terminal 28 engageable with the ring 23.
Within the nipple 21 is a sponge 28 and such nipple at its outer oompressible end is provided 20 with adelivery opening lll as is usual.
The body i0 of the device or bottle is lled with milk through the opening Il by removal of thecap i8 therefrom and the 'feeding of the milk to a calf is had through the nipple or tit 21 and 25 in this manner enabling the weaning of the calf. The cap I8 when applied to the ring Il at the opening Il of the body I0, enables the device or bottle to be hung in a convenient location for the feeding of the calf. 30
What is claimed is:
A calf weaner comprising a hollow resilient body having opposed walled openings, a double flanged ring accommodating the wall of each of said openings, an out-turned portion formed 3; with one of the anges of each ring and overnext thereto of the walled opening companion thereto, a nipple threaded with the ring fitting one walled opening, and a hanger cap tting the ring companion to the o other walled opening, one of the walled openings being of considerably greater size than the other walled opening.
