Description
April 25, 1939- B. M. TAKAHASHI TROUSERS GUARD Filed June 15, 1958 ATTORN EYS Patented Apr. 25, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE TROUSERS GUARD Benjamin Takahashi, Harlowton, 'Mont. Application June 13, 1938, Serial No. 213,533
1 Claim.
'This 'invention relates to trousers guards, and its general'object is to provide guards, in the form of fastening devices that are primarily designed for use with working garments, such as overalls ii. and the like, to hold the-bottom of the leg portions thereof in snugly folded association about the ankle portions of the shoes of the wearer, so as to not only exclude dirt and dust from the legs of the wearer, to retain the legs in a clean and sanitary condition, but also brings about many other advantageous features, such as for instance a safety feature, in that the folded and held leg portions tend to prevent the latter from becoming caught or entangled in machinery and the like, thereby reducing accidents of that character to a minimum.
A further object is to provide a fastening device for the bottom of the leg portion of a garment, that is fixed directly thereto, for instant use, and when not in use maybe hidden by cuffs.
Another object is to provide a fastening device of the character set forth, that is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, may be readily stitched or otherwise secured to the trousers leg, and is extremely eflicient in use, operation and service.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and specifically pointed out in the appended claim,
In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawing wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a side view illustrating my fastening device secured to a leg portion of a pair of trousers, overalls or the like, with the parts of the O fastening device separated and the leg portion in normal position.
Figure 2 is a similar view with the parts of the fastening device connected for holding the leg portion in snugly folded association about the ankle portion of the shoe.
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 1, with the lower end of the leg portion of the trousers folded to provide a cuff disposed about the fastening Q device for hiding the same from view.
Figure 4 is a view similar to Figure 2 with the cuff turned inwardly for disposal within the leg portion.
Figure 5 is a perspective view illustrating a modified form of the device in use.
Figures 6 and '7 are perspective views of the parts of the modified form.
It will be obvious that a fastening device is provided for each leg portion of the garment, and referring to the drawing in detail, the leg portions are indicated by the letter A and may have cuffs B thereon.
In any event, in the form shown in Figures 1 to 4 inclusive the fastening device includes a tab I made from fabric or any material suitable for m the purpose and has one end portion stitched or otherwise secured to the leg portion as at 2 on the inner side of the outer surface thereof adjacent to the front and lower edge, as best shown in Figure 1. The free portion of the tab has fixed l5 thereto adjacent its outer end a socket fastener member 3 and secured to the leg portion for disposal in the path of the socket fastener member is a companion or stud fastener member 4 for receiving the socket fastener member 3 to hold the tab against flapping when not in use, as will be apparent upon inspection of Figure 1.
Stitched or otherwise secured as at 5 to the outer side of the leg portion and on the outer surface thereof rearwardly of the seam and for disposal diagonally with respect to the lower edge of the leg portion, and substantially in alignment with the point of connection of the tab I therewith, is a reinforcing strip 6 which is likewise made from fabric or other material suitable for the purpose. The reinforcing strip 6 is preferably of rectangular formation as shown, and has secured thereto a pair of stud fastener members l and 8, either of which is adapted to receive the socket fastener member 3 for holding the lower end of the leg portion in folded position about the ankle portion of the shoe, as shown in Figures 2 and 4.
It will be noted from Figure 3 that the leg por-. tion of the garment about its lower edge has been folded upwardly to provide the cuff B and when so arranged, the cuff hides the tab and reinforcing strip. When the cuff is not used, the lower end portion of the garment is folded as shown in Figure 2, and the socket fastener member 3 is snapped on either of the stud fastener members I or 8. However, when the cuff is used, it can be disposed within the leg portion of the garment as shown in Figure 4, and then the socket fastener member 3 is snapped on or applied to either of the stud fastener members I or 8.
The form as shown in Figures 5 to 7 inclusive likewise includes a tab 9 secured to the leg portion by stitching or the like as at I ii and arranged in exactly the same manner as the tab I, but the tab 9 has a buttonhole l! of the usual construction therein and which of course is reinforced in the usual manner. The reinforcing strip l2 of this form is likewise of elongated rectangular formation and is secured to the leg portion in the same manner as the reinforcing strip 6, as well as arranged accordingly. The strip I2 has fixed thereto a pair of buttons l3 and I4, and the buttons are to receive the tab 9 through the medium of the buttonhole thereof, for securing the lower end of the leg portion in snugly folded association about the ankle portion of the shoe, as shown in Figure 5. The buttons l3 and I4 are preferably of the separable type and include socket means l5 fixed to the strip l2 for receiving the studded heads, as best shown in Figure 6.
From the above description and disclosure of the drawing, it will be obvious that my guard or fastening device not only holds the lower end portions of the leg portions of trousers and the the shoes of the wearer, but make it possible for the leg portions to be neatly folded and held accordingly, especially in view of the diagonal arrangement of the reinforcing strip.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
It is to be understood that changes may be like snugly about the ankles or ankle portions of made in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
A fastening device for the lower end portion of a garment leg and comprising a tab fixed adjacent to the forward portion of the leg to one side of and adjacent to its longitudinal center to provide a free end portion for the tab, a reinforcing strip fixed to the leg adjacent to its rear portion upon the side thereof opposite to the connection of the tab with the leg and being diagonally disposed with respect to the lower end of the leg, companion snap fastener members secured to the free end portion of the tab and to the reinforcing strip respectively for detachably connecting the tab to the strip for holding the lower end portion of the leg in folded association about the ankle of the wearer, there being a plural number of snap fastener members on the strip for adjusting the folded portion about the ankle, and a snap fastener member on the same side of the leg as the strip and in close proximity to the tab for receiving the free end portion of the tab for connecting the free end portion to the leg when the tab is not in use.
