And a further highly important object is the provision of an attachment plug affording a greater measure of safety and accident preven-- tion through the practical elimination of both fire and accident hazards so common with the average attachment plug for like purposes in use.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will more fully appear as this specification pro- 1g ceeds and as is set forth in the appended claims.
I attain these objects by the device disclosed in the accompanying drawing, in which:

Similar numerals of reference indicate lilo. parts thruout the several views, the invention. as thus comprising a sectional" body or" cooperating halves A and B respectively and fulcrumed at I0. In process of manufacture, each of said halves are formed of separate portions, the half A by the portions ii and it which are held in. secured relation to one another by means of a bolt 8 and a dowel pin it, the half compri portions i5 and H5 joined together by a bolt 2 and a dowel pin E8. The former are shaped adiacent their meeting edges to provide a longitw dinal cavity is having a contact clip 253 interposed in its'fortvarcl end. The rear ends of said cavities l9 and 2t provide respective passages for the entrance of wires and 24 which are connected to the contact clips 29 and 22 by suitable means as by bolts 25 and 26 respectively.
Itawill be noted that the contact clips are variable in shape so as to accommodate the an trance of appliance cont-act posts or prongs of various shape and spacing, as are indicated at iii and 22' for example, the cavi les 5 and All providing ample clearance to permit the spreadlw of said clips as required in self-adjustable engagement with said prongs in the process of entering the same, the cooperating influence of said variable designed cavities (Fig. 6) and said selfadjustable spreading means inherent in said clips providing a basically designed attachment plug for universal adaptation to electric appliances and devices of the post or prong insertion type.
Being fulcrumed at III, the respective halves'A and B when interconnected, are readily adaptable to be spread apart at either end. In as much, however, that they are normally urged together at their forward end by a binding spring 21, the jointed plug thus-connected will ordinarily receive the minimum spaced prongs of any electrical device or appliance. Such, however, of greater spacing are as readily engageable with the plug. Grasping the plug at the rear portion and squeezing the same lightly. lust suiflcient to overcome the resistance of the tension exerted by the binding spring 21, will permitextension of the respective forward ends of the halves A and B to meet the required width of the spacing demanded by the prongs. Figures 8 and 9 illustrate the attachment plug modified in some respects. In principle and operation, however, it embodies like features as the former. The principal difference between the two being that the latter has its separate half portions interconnected in manner varying with the former. In the'latter, the spring tensioning of the respective halves is accomplished by means of a combined fulcrum and C-shaped spring 28 cooperatably positioned within the halves A and B as at 28, and whereby the spring normally urges the forward ends of the halves A and B together, and,
at the same time, securely engagessaid halves to one another. 1
Shoulders 30 of any desired shape and style ma also be provided as shown, on either type of attachment plug. They serve a useful purpose when the plug is connected to an appliance having a wire reeling device, in which case the shoulder prevents the plug from being drawn into the reel when the wire is drawn therein.
Readily produced from materials obtainable the open market and at no great expense, light in weight, compactly built and well constructed, the plug commends itself for its universal adaptation and satisfaction in operating results.
I am aware that slight modifications may from time to time be made in the details of structure without departing, however, from the scope of the present invention, and as defined in the claims which are appended hereto. Hence, I do not limit my present invention to the exact description of construction herein disclosed, but what I do claim is:--
-1. An attachment plug comprising a pair of relatively movable and detachably connected tubular sections, spring means surrounding and removably mounted on said sections for holding them together, resisting relative movement thereof and permitting said sections to be separated when removed therefrom,-separable fulcrum portions embodied in opposed portions of said sections for affording relative pivotal movement of the latter when saidspring means is in place and l a bodily separation of said sections upon removal of the saidspring means, and contact members enclosed in said sections, each of said sections having one opening affording engagement of the contact member thereof with a contact post of an electrical appliance, and another opening affording connectiotn of said contact member with a flexible electrical conductor.
2. An attachment. plug comprising a pair of relatively movable and detachably connected tubular sections, spring means surrounding and removably mounted on said sections for holding them together, resisting relative movement thereof and permitting said sections to be separated when removed therefrom, separable male and female 'fulcrum portions embodied in opposed portions and between the ends of said sections for affording relative pivotal movement of the latter when said spring means is in place and a bodily separation of said sections upon removal of the said spring means, and contact members enclosed in said sections, each of said sections having one opening affording engagement of the contact member thereof with a contact post of an electrical appliance, and another opening affording connection of said contact member with a flexible electrical conductor, each of said sections being longitudinally divided into halves each of which is provided with one of said fulcrum portions and means for securingsaid halves together.
