3 Claims.
'I'he present invention relates to signs. and is more particularly directed toward edge lighted signs adapted to employ a replica of the article being advertised as a lamp housing. y
A further object of the present invention is to provide an edge lighted sign with a peripheral band of colored pigment adapted to be illuminated when the sign is lighted and to simulate the appearance of a neon tube.
10 The accompanying drawing shows, for purposes of illustrating the present invention, one embodiment in which the invention may take form, it being understood that the drawing is illustrative of the invention rather than limiting the same.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a side elevational view o! the sign with parts in section; and
Figure 2 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 2 2 of Figure 1.
In the drawing a sign is shown as having a generally cylindrical base I0 provided with a lateral extension II and apertured as at I2 to accommodate the wires. 'I'he base supports a lamp socket I3 which carries a lamp bulb I4. The socket and bulb are surrounded by a lamp housing I5 which conveniently takes the form of a container `for goods to be advertised, for example, a bottle such as shown. 'I'his lamp hous- 30 ing is hollow and has a Vslot Ain the wall as indicated at I6.
A sign plate II provided with suitable sign indicia extends into the slot I6, so as to be near the lamp bulb, and the bottom of the sign plate 35 rests on the extension II, preferably in the slot I8 as indicated. The sign may have any desired contour.
In the simple form shown all the exposed edges of the sign plate are beveled, as indicated at I9,
. and provided with a pigment indicated by the stippling. This pigment picks up the light rays in the glass and reflects them out through the front face providing a. colored band which simulates the appearance of a neon tube.
(Cl. llil-130) In the form of construction shown the lamp housing I5 is independent of the base and upwardly removable to permit access to the lampV bulb and socket. It will, of course, be obvious vthat these two parts may be made integral and the lamp and socket mounted in this integral member in a suitable manner. Other :forms of container may be used, such as a milk bottle, milk can, beer keg, etc.
It is obvious that the invention may be emm bodied in many forms and constructions within the scope of the claims and I wish it to be understood that., the particular form shown is but one of the many forms. Various modifications and changes being possible, I do not otherwise imit myself in any way with respect thereto.
What is claimed is:
l. A sign comprising a base, a lamp socket and lamp bulb carried by the base, an opaque lamp receptacle above the base and having a slotted wall, an extension on the base below the slot, and an edge lighted indicia carrying plate extending into the slot and supported on the extension, the edge of the plate being beveled on the back side and coated with a colored pigment so as to present a colored peripheral band.
2. A sign adapted to advertise a beverage comprising a base, a hollow replica of a container carried by the base, a lamp disposed in the replica, the replica having a vertical slot in its side so wall, an extension of the base below the slot. the extension having a slot, and an edge lighted indicia carrying plate extending into the first slot to receive light from the lamp and into the second slot to be supported therein.
3. An edge lighted sign comprising a lamp housing, an indicia carrying plate having an edge adjacent the lamp to admit light and exposed edge portions provided with pigment carrying beveled areas whereby an illuminated colored band is provided about the exposed edges of the sign. i
