V INVENTOR ATTORNEY J. LINI PORTABLE BATH March 3, 1936.
Filed April 26, 1935 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 John 11j/n2) ATTORNEY Patented Mar. 3, 1936 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
This invention relates to portable baths especially adapted for treatment of persons and has for the primary object the provision of a device of this character which is inexpensive to manufac- 5 ture and to operate for the purpose of providing vapor or dry heat baths or treatments to a person while in a reclining position and which may be moved from one place to another while occupied or non-occupied.
With these and other objects in View, this invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view illustrating a portable bath constructed in accordance with my invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view partly broken away illustrating the device.
Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
Referring in detail to the drawings, the numeral I indicates a stand or support including vertically arranged legs 2 reinforced by braces 3. The legs 2 are equipped with rollers 4 at their lower ends permitting the stand or support to be readily moved from one place to another.
Mounted upon the stand or support is a horizontally arranged board r rest 5 on which a person may lie or recline. One end of the board or rest 5 is rounded, as shown in Figure 2. The ends of the rest or board protrude or project beyond the stand or support. The non-rounded end of the board or rest is the head portion while the rounded portion is the foot portion for a person when in a reclining position. A trough 6 is arranged at the opposite side edges and the rounded end of the board or rest and is provided at the rounded end with a drain opening 1 which may be positioned over a drain or sink for carrying off condensation or liquid. Connected to the trough, at spaced intervals, are branch steam pipes 8 which are connected to a main steam pipe 9 leading to a boiler I0 mounted on the support or stand I. The boiler I 0 is of any conventional construction and is heated in any well known manner. The steam pipe 9 has therein a control valve I2.
'Ihe side portions of the trough 6 are provided with slots I4 opened and closed by slides I5 actuated by control mediums I6. The slots I4 communicate the trough with a heat chamber I1 arranged under the board or rest 5 and in which is located electrical heating elements I8, the circuits of which are shown at I9. The circuits have therein control switches 20 carried by the support or stand I. The electrical heating elements I8 are for the purpose of generating a dry heat 5 while the steam arrangement is for the purpose of creating a moist or vapor heat.
Secured to opposite sides and arranged transversely of the rest or board are spaced bowed elements 2I forming supports for a cover 22. The l0 cover 22 is made from any material suitable for the purpose and has one end and the side edges suitably secured to the outer edges of the trough 6. The cover 22 terminates at one oi the elements 2| which element is located adjacent the head 15 rest portion of the rest or board 5 leaving one end of the cover open for the purpose of exposing the head of the person reclining on the board or rest. The closed end of the cover is supported by a brace 22. The top portion of the cover is 20 slit from the open end of the cover towards the closed end so that said cover may be folded oif of the supporting elements 2| when desired. A zipper or similar fastener 23 is provided to the cover at the slit therein so that said cover may be 25 drawn into covering position or opened when desired. A towel or similar device 24 may be draped over the open end so that a persons head may be covered should it be desired when giving the heat treatment. 30
In operation, when desiring to give a steam bath or treatment, the person assumes a reclining position upon the board or rest 5 and the valve I2 is opened admitting steam to the trough which rises within the cover 22 filling the space therein and coming in direct contact with the person. At this time the slots I4 are closed by the slides I5. The condensation of the steam passes back to the trough and drains therefrom by way of 4 the drain opening 1. To give a dry heat treatment, the slides I 5 are moved to uncover the slots I4 and the electrical heating elements are set in operation so that the heat therefrom may pass through the slots I4 into the space between the 45 cover and the rest or board 5 and in contact with the person thereon.
Having described the invention, I claim:
1. A portable bath comprising a horizontally arranged rest, a portable stand supporting said 50 rest, a trough carried by said rest and arranged at opposite sides thereof and at one end of said rest and having a drain opening, supporting elements carried by said rest, a cover mounted on said supporting elements and having opposite 55 sides and one end secured to the outer edges of the trough, and means for admitting heat to the trough.
2. A portable bath comprising a horizontally arranged rest, a portable stand supporting said rest, a trough carried by said rest and arranged at opposite sides thereof and at one end of said rest and having a drain opening, supporting elements carried by said rest, a cover mounted on said supporting elements and having opposite sides and one end secured to the outer edge of the trough, a heat chamber arranged under he rest, said trough having slots communicative with the heat chamber, means for opening and closing said slots, and electrical. heating elements arranged in said heat chamber to generate heat for passing to the trough by Way of said slots.
