6 Clai This invention relates generally to articleedisplay-counters. More particularly, my invention relates to a certain new and useful improvement in removable or interchangeable counteratop sections or units, commonly designated as countershams.

My invention has for. its chief object the provision of a counter-sham so constructed for interengagement with uniquely formed clips that a division-wall or partition in edgewise upstanding relation may with ease, convenience, and efficiency be supported at any desired location thereacross.

My invention has for a further object the provision of counter-shame so constructed for arrangement in a compact snug series within the embracing wall of a counter-top with partition walls rigidly clamped in edgewise upstanding relation therebetween.

My invention has for another object the provision of .counter-shams so constructed for independent removal or substitution when disposed in a compact snug series within an embracing counter-wall or other enclosure.

And with the above and other objects in view, my invention resides in the novel features of form, construction, arrangement, and combination of parts presently described and pointed out in the claims.

Figure 3 is a transverse sectional view of one of the shams; and

Figure 4 is a perspective view of one of the partition-wall supporting clips of the sham.

Referring now more in detail and by reference characters to the drawing, which illustrates a preferred embodiment of my invention, A designates a counter-top of any standard or approved type, the same including a top-wall I suitably equipped therearound with an upstanding marginal wall comprising opposed end-walls 2 and opposed side-walls 3, one of the end-walls 2 being here omitted.

B, B, designate the counter-shams of my invention, each of which includes a frame comprising a pair of preferably wooden side-members or rails 4 rigidly tied or secured together in suitably spaced parallel relation by bottom cross-pieces 5.

, it will be understood that each section B has a length to fit snugly between the opposed end 26 members 2 of the enclosing counter-wall. Each of the sections B, however, has, as shown, a width considerably less than the space between the opposed side-members 3 of the counter-wall,

a series or plurality of the sections B being, in 30 use and practice, in sidewise relation with upstanding partitions E of glass or other suitable I material disposed and clamped in edgewise upstanding position therebetween, snugly fitted in and between the opposite counter-wall-members 3, cross end-walls F being, however, accommodated and clamped in edgewise upstanding relation between the opposite counter-wall members 2 and the respective ends of the sections B, substantially as shown.

And by means of the clips C, each of the sections B may be equipped with any desired number of the cross partitions D adjustably or varyingly spaced, as desired, within the length of the 45 section to provide compartments, as they may be termed, of correspondingly varying size for the articles to be displayed.

Each section B is also provided or formed adjacent its opposite ends with finger-openings 50 ll, whereby any respective section B may be conveniently removed for substitution or other desired purpose.

The counter-sham and its associated parts or elements may be inexpensively constructed and 55 readily and easily installed upon a counter or other support, and have been found exceedingly efficient in the performance of their intended functions.

I am aware that changes in the form, construction, arrangement, and combination of the several parts of the counter-sham may be made and substituted for those herein shown and described without departing from the nature and principle of my invention.

Having thus described my invention, what. I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,

1. In a counter-sham, a frame comprising a pair of spaced parallel rails each provided longitudinally in its upwardly presented facewith a groove, clips each comprising a U-shaped bodyportion and a depending tongue, the clips being seated in opposed pair relation with their said tongues fitting endwise in said grooves, and means including spring-strips each of arcuate formation in transverse sectionand edgewise fitting in and lengthwiseextending longitudinally in the respective grooves for co-operably with respective walls of the grooves engaging the clip-tongues for yieldingly retaining the clips in upright position for supporting a cross-partition at a selected location edgewise on and over the frame.

In a counter-sham, a frame comprising a pair of spaced parallel rails each provided longitudinally in its upwardly presented face with a groove, clips each'comprising a U-shaped bodyportion and a depending tongue, the clips being seated in opposed pair relation with their said tongues fitting endwise in said grooves, and means including spring-strips each of arcuate formation in transverse section and edgewise fitting in and lengthwise extending longitudinally in the respective grooves for co-operably with respective walls of the grooves engaging the cliptongues for yieldingly retaining the clips in upright position for supporting a cross-partition at a selected location edgewise on and over the frame, each strip being also formed with spaced transverse corrugations for supporting engagement with the opposite side margins of the respective seated clip-tongues.

In a counter-sham, a frame comprising a pair of spaced parallel rails each provided longitudinally in its upwardly presented face with a 5 groove, respective spring-strips each of arcuate formation in transverse section edgewise fitted and lengthwise longitudinally extending in the grooves, each strip being provided with corrugations extending transversely of the strip from one side edge thereof to the other and the corrugations of each strip being spaced one from the other longitudinally of the strip, and clips each comprising a U-shaped body-portion and a depending tongue, the clips being arranged in opposed pair relation with their said tongues fitting fiatwise intermediate the strip and a wall of the groove and endwise intermediate respective selected pairs of the corrugations, said strips cooperably with said wall of the groove yieldingly retaining theclips in upstanding position for supporting at their said body-portions a cross-partition edgewise on and over the frame.

4. A counter-sham having a groove, and a clipretaining metallic strip of arcuate formation in transverse section edgewise disposed and lengthwise extending in said groove.

5. A counter-sham having a groove, and a clipretaining metallic strip of arcuate formation in transverse section edgewise disposed and lengthso wise extending in said groove, the strip being provided transversely with clip-confining humps spaced one from the other longitudinally of the strip.

6. A counter-sham'including a rail having a s5 groove in its upwardly presented face, a metallic strip of arcuate formation in transverse section edgewise disposed and longitudinally extending in said groove, the strip being provided transversely with spaced humps, and a clip having a 40 tongue fitting between and confined by said humps and yieldingly retained in the groove by said strip in co-operation with a wall of the groove.
