Description

    CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION
  • The present application claims priority to, and the benefit of, U.S. Provisional Application No. 63/211,473, which was filed on Jun. 16, 2021 and is incorporated herein by reference in its entirety.
  • FIELD OF THE INVENTION
  • The present invention relates generally to the field of insulated garments. More specifically, the present invention relates to insulated work pants that solve the problems associated with current insulated work pants of being too bulky, difficult to put on and shoulder straps pulling down on the wearer. The insulated work pants are in the form of conventional trousers that have novel multiple layers of insulating material for trapping body heat and preventing cold from the outside environment from reaching the user. Accordingly, the present disclosure makes specific reference thereto. Nonetheless, it is to be appreciated that aspects of the present invention are also equally applicable to other like applications, devices and methods of manufacture.
  • BACKGROUND
  • By way of background, various types of protective garments are necessary to provide protection to the user. For instance, work pants are necessary for some users working outdoors in cold and inclement weather for protection from the cold. Currently, coveralls or bib coveralls are available for users, however, they are generally bulky and have shoulder straps that pull down on the user. Shoulder straps are especially uncomfortable for elderly and weak people, and they may end up not wearing such protective garments. Such protective garments provide only ineffective protection from cold and do not provide protection against any type of flame. Further, conventional work pants can easily catch fire and can be hazardous for the user. Therefore, a common complaint of users working outside in cold weather is that they are not provided enough warmth by the work pants or other body heating garments they wear and also that they feel fatigued and burdened with the heavy weight of their protective garments.
  • Currently, individuals use ineffective garments that are not only bulky but are difficult to wear. Putting on and taking off current work pants and coveralls are frustrating and time consuming and almost impossible in crowded and tight areas.
  • Further, currently available garments cannot be worn like conventional garments, such as trousers, and do not have improved insulating means for protecting the user from cold and inclement weather.
  • Therefore, there exists a long felt need in the art for an improved insulating garment that provides effective protection from cold and inclement weather and flames. There is also a long felt need in the art for an improved insulating garment that can be put on and taken off easily by the user. Additionally, there is a long felt need in the art for an improved insulating garment that does not have shoulder straps pulling down on the user. Moreover, there is a long felt need in the art for an improved insulating garment that is lightweight, compact, and not bulky. Furthermore, there is a long felt need in the art for an improved insulating garment that has insulating material layers to trap body heat. Finally, there is a long felt need in the art for an improved insulating garment that eliminates the need for full body coveralls, insulated coveralls, or even bib coveralls.
  • The subject matter disclosed and claimed herein, in one embodiment thereof, comprises insulated work pants. The insulated work pants are made of a weatherproof material, such as canvas, and shaped to cover the lower portion of a user's body. The pants feature a waistband and a pair of leg lengths for accommodating legs of the user. The waist band has a latch for securing the pants around the waist of the user and a hook and loop fastener for enabling a snug fit of the trousers around the waist of the user. A plurality of insulating layers are stitched inside the trousers for trapping body heat and preventing the transfer of cold from the outside environment. Further, the side seam of each leg length has a heavy-duty zipper which can be pulled up and pulled down to further loosen or tighten the pants.
  • In this manner, the insulated work pants of the present invention accomplish all of the forgoing objectives and provide users with an improved, insulated work pant designed to be compact, lightweight, easy to put on, and helps keep them warm and dry while working outdoors. The work pants enable users to apply the pants quickly, and thus eliminates the need for full body coveralls, insulated coveralls or even bib coveralls. The insulated layers of the pants keep the user warm and protected during cold and/or inclement weather and from flames.

Additionally, an illustrated embodiment need not have all the aspects or advantages shown. Thus, in other embodiments, any of the features described herein from different embodiments may be combined.
  • As noted above, there exists a long felt need in the art for an improved insulating garment that provides effective protection from cold and inclement weather and flames. There is also a long felt need in the art for an improved insulating garment that can be put on and taken off easily by a user.
  • The present invention, in one exemplary embodiment, is a novel insulated work pant having a plurality of insulating layers stitched inside the pants. The work pants have at least one insulating layer stitched to the inner surface of the pants, wherein the insulating layer has a heating element for providing normal body temperature to the user and is controlled by a control button disposed on the inner surface of the waistband.
  • Referring initially to the drawings, FIG. 1 illustrates a perspective view of an embodiment of the insulated work pants 100 of the present invention. The insulated work pants 100 of the present embodiment are designed to be a flame-resistant and insulating trouser for users working outdoors, especially in cold and inclement weather. The pair of trousers 100 features multiple insulated layers to help keep the user warm and dry while working outdoors. Advantageously, the trousers 100 enable users to apply the pants quickly, thus eliminating the need for full body coveralls, insulated coveralls, or even bib coveralls. More specifically, the trousers 100 have a first leg length 102 for accommodating a first leg and a second leg length 104 for accommodating a second leg of a user. A waistband 106 is used for securing the work pants 100 around the waist of a user. The pair of trousers 100 is made of an outer canvas layer 108 that is weatherproof, heavy-duty plain-woven fabric. The waistband 106 has a latch closure 110 enabling a user to secure the trousers 100 around the waist in a snug fit manner. The waistband 106 also has a hook and loop fastener for adjusting the width of the waistband 106, enabling the waistband 106 to fit around different waist sizes. Specifically, the hook fastener 112 is removably-attached to the loop fastener 114, allowing the adjustment of the waistband 106.
  • Furthermore, both leg lengths 102, 104 of the trousers 100 each have a zipper for easy sliding on of the pants 100 and also for tightening the pants 100 when worn by a user. As shown, the first leg length's side seam 116 has a first heavy-duty zipper 118, originating from the first leg opening 1020 till about three-fourth of the total length of the trousers 100 and the second leg length's side seam 120 has a second heavy duty zipper 122, from the second leg opening 1040 till about three-fourth of the total length of the trousers 100. For wearing or taking off the trousers 100, both the first heavy duty zipper 118 and the second heavy duty zipper 122 can be unzipped, thus, enabling easy and quick putting on and taking off of the trousers 100. It should be appreciated that the trousers 100 of the present invention can be worn like conventional trousers, which eliminates the need for wearing full body coveralls, insulated coveralls or even bib coveralls. The trousers 100 have a central zipper 124 positioned to cover the crotch area of a user.
  • The canvas material of the trousers 100 provides for insulation and protection from getting wet. Further, for providing additional insulation to keep the user warm, a plurality of insulated material layers 126 is secured inside the trousers 100. The insulation layers 126 are made from one or more thermal insulating materials, such as a synthetic insulation fiber or microfiber insulation fiber. Naturally, insulating materials, such as thin wool can also be used for making the insulation layers 126. The thermal layers are secured inside the trousers via stitching. Each insulation layer is stitched across the first leg length 102, the second leg length 104, the front rise 128 and the back rise 130. Alternatively, the insulation layers can be secured using Velcro®, hook and loop fasteners, snap buttons, etc., or any other suitable fastening means as is known in the art. The insulation layers remain secured inside the trousers and keep the user warm even in extreme cold weather.
  • The pair of trousers 100 with integrated insulating layers 126 is lightweight and is easy to put on and take off. The number of insulating layers 126 inside the trousers 100 can range from one to five, for providing adequate protection from cold in different types of climates. The thickness of each insulating layer can be approximately 0.1 inches, 0.25 inches, 0.5 inches, 0.55 inches, or 0.75 inches. Further, the plurality of insulating layers can have the same or different thickness and also the insulating layers can be made from the same or different insulating materials. Moreover, a single insulating layer can have uniform thickness or can have variable thickness. This is useful, when more insulation is provided near the crotch area and less insulation may be required below the knees of the user. The insulating layers do not let the cold from outside to reach a user's body and help to retain the heat radiated by a user's body, and thus provide the required thermal coverage. Further, when the trousers 100 are worn by a user, the innermost insulating layer of the plurality of the insulating layers 126 is in direct contact with the user's skin.
  • A user can easily work in wet conditions after wearing the work pants 100 of the present invention. The outer canvas material is waterproof and does not allow water to pass through the outer layer to wet the insulating layers and the user's body.
  • FIG. 2 illustrates a sectional view showing multiple insulating layers positioned between the skin 208 of the user and the outermost canvas layer 108 of the insulating trousers 100 of the present invention. As shown, the outermost insulating layer 202 of the plurality of insulating layers 126 adheres to the outermost canvas layer 108 and has waterproofing capabilities in addition to thermal-retention properties. Then, the middle insulating layer 204 helps to retain a user's body heat and does not allow any temperature to radiate through it. The innermost insulating layer 206 touches or contacts the skin 208 of the user and is soft and does not cause irritation to the skin. The innermost insulating layer 206 maintains the warmth in the skin 208 of the user. Each of the insulating layers has a base weight from about 200 GSM to about 450 GSM. Further, the canvas layer 108 can have a base weight from about 300 GSM to about 500 GSM. As stated earlier, the thickness of each insulating layer can be approximately 0.1 inches, 0.25 inches, 0.5 inches, 0.55 inches, or 0.75 inches. Further, in the present embodiment, the three insulating layers are shown, however, any number of layers between one and five can be utilized as is known in the art.
  • Each insulating layer can be pre-stitched to the other insulating layers, such that the plurality of insulating layers 126 are snapped or stitched easily onto the canvas layer 108. The insulating layers are machine washable and also act as moisture barrier. The insulating layers reduce the transfer of heat between the user's body and the external or surrounding environment.
  • FIG. 3 illustrates a perspective view showing another embodiment of the insulating pants of the present invention. In the present embodiment, the insulating pants 300 have a plurality of insulating layers 302, that have a built-in heating element 304. The heating element 304 of the insulating layers 302 provides an adequate body temperature to the skin of the user to prevent cold from coming in. Similar to the first embodiment of the present invention, the pants 300 have a first zipper 306 on the first leg length 308 and have a second zipper 310 on the second leg length 312. The waistband 314 has a snap lock 316 and a hook and loop fastener 318. A control button 320 is disposed on the waistband 314 for activating or deactivating the heating element disposed in the insulating layers 302. The heating element 304 is coupled to the control button 320 and is covered by a waterproof covering. The present embodiment can have a plurality of pockets to be used for keeping personal items, such as smartphone or any tool for work. An exemplary pocket is shown at 322.
  • The heating element 304 embedded in the insulating layers 302 keeps the temperature of the body of the user closer to the user's normal body temperature, which in turn, reduces a user's discomfort and/or sensitivity and allows the user to work even in extreme cold conditions.
  • The insulating layers 302 of all the embodiments of the present invention do not reduce the flexibility of the insulating pants, and thus effectively improve the utility for users working outdoors in cold and inclement weather. Further, the trousers can be worn when there is lack of space for users and eliminate the need for full body coveralls, insulated coveralls or even bib coveralls.
  • FIG. 4 illustrates a flow diagram showing the exemplary steps of wearing the insulating pants of the present invention. Initially at 402, the pants are held by the waistband and one leg is inserted into a first leg length and the second leg is inserted into a second leg length such that the legs and the crotch area of the user is properly covered by the pants. Then at 404, the waistband is snugly secured around the waist of the user using the hook and loop fastener and the snap button disposed on the waistband. Then at 406, the insulating layers inside the trousers trap a user's body heat and do not allow the outside cold to reach the body of the user.
  • FIG. 5 illustrates a rear perspective view of the first embodiment of the insulation trousers 100 of the present invention. The insulation pants 100 have an indicia or logo 502, such as a flag, trademark or any other indicia on the waistband 106, just above the back rise 130. Preferably, an American flag is disposed on the waistband 106, however any other indicia as is known in the art can be displayed on the pants 100. Further, indicia can be displayed on any portion of the pants 100, not just the waistband, depending on the needs and/or wants of a user.
  • FIG. 6 illustrates a close-up view of an exemplary heavy-duty zipper on the side seam of a leg length of the insulated trousers of the present invention in an opened state. As shown as an example, the heavy-duty zipper 118 on the side seam 116 of the leg length 102 can be opened to create an opening 602, allowing a user to easily put on and take off the trousers 100. Further, the zipper 118 can also be used for tightening the trousers 100 to the legs of the user for comfortable wearing when working in cold and inclement weather.
  • FIG. 7 illustrates a perspective view showing a user 700 wearing the insulated trousers 100 of the present invention. As shown, the trousers 100 can be worn on the legs like conventional trousers, for providing adequate insulation from cold weather and allowing a user's body heat to be trapped. The insulated work pants 100 are not too bulky, difficult to put on, and do not require shoulder straps that pull down on the user 700. Further, the user 700 can apply the pants 100 quickly, eliminating the need for full body coveralls, insulated coveralls or even bib coveralls. The pants 100 can also be used for recreational activities, and are not limited to use in the work environment.
