M. GARR IDO SUGAR AND THE LIKE DISPENSER Filed April 22, 1955 \NVENTOR MARIA GARRIDQ BY WW ATTORNEY Patented Nov. 12, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICIE 9 Claims.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a sugar and the like dispenser.
The invention has for an object the construction of a device as mentioned which is characterized by a container with an open top having a cylindrical neck, a hollow cylindrical member Within the neck and having a cone-shaped bottom end, a cover, a cone-shaped memben'and an inverted cup associated with the open end of the receptacle in such a manner that a measured quantity of sugar may be dispensed each time the dispenser is inverted. More particularly, the invention contemplates mounting the inverted cupfixedly spaced from the cylindrical member so that there is a passage for sugar around the edges thereof and locating the inverted cup between said cones so as to determine the amount of sugar dispensed each time.
Another one of the objects of this invention is the provision of a novel means for adjustably holding the cup in several fixed positions to control the quantity of sugar dispensed at each operation of the device. 7
Still further the invention proposes the construction of a device as described which is simple'and durable and which can be manufactured and sold at a reasonable cost. a
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawing forming a material part of this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of a device constructed according to this invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view of the device.
Fig.4 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 5 is a horizontal the line 5,5 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the cylindrical member per se.
Fig. '7 is a horizontal the line 1-1 of Fig. 3. i
The sugar and the like dispenser,-according to this invention, comprises a container l with an open top portion l0 and. having a. cylindrical neck portion Ni A hollow cylindrical member II is mounted within the neck portion and is formed with a cone-shaped bottom end I l A cover I2 is engaged over the open top I ll' of the receptacle and is formed with a central opening sectional view taken on sectional View taken on 0f the container.
l2 connected with the central opening of a cupshaped member l3 mounted between the cover [2 and the cylindrical member H. An inverted cup I4 is spacedly held from said cylindrical member l3 so that there is a, passage for sugar 5 around the edges thereof and is located between the said cones, and is opposed to the said coneshaped bottom end H of the cylindrical member. J
The container I0 is formed with a flat bottom 19 l0 so that it may rest upon a table or other flat object. Preferably the container should be constructed of glass, or other ornamental andattractive water-proof material. The cylindrical member I l rests upon several lugs l5 integral With the material of. the container I0 and arranged immediately adjacent the bottom end of the cylindrical neck lfl With this arrangement the cylindrical member ll may be manually drawn upwards and out from the open end Ill The cone-shaped bottom end H isformed with a central opening l6 through which the sugar may pass against the cup I l.
.The cup I4 is held by several straps l8 fixedly upon the cone-shaped member 13. A flange I9 surrounds the opening I2 of the cover and telescopically engages with a flange l3 of annular form, forming an opening in the base of the cone-shaped member l3.
The bottom periphery of the cone-shaped member I3 is formed with several prongs 20 engaging into longitudinal grooves 2! formed in the inner face of the bottom cylindrical member ll. These prongs 20 terminate in resilient portions 20 adapted to be wedged into branch passages 2| of the groove 2| was to fixedly hold the cone-shaped member I 3 in various selected positions. In one position the cone-shaped member 3 is adapted to move longitudinally, and then rotated in several longitudinal positions so as to maintain the longitudinally adjusted position. With this arrangement the space between the cup I 4 and the opening It may be changed to control the amount of sugar dispensed each time the. device is operated.
The cover I2 is removably mounted upon the open end l0 of the container by several short inturned flanges 12 upon the free edge thereof adapted to engage with undercuts in the outer wall of the end Ill The operation is similar to that of screw threads. The connection means of the cover and the receptacle are not important since any other arrangement may be utilized Without affecting the operation of the device.
The operation of the device is as follows:-The
position some of the sugar will cover l2, the cone-shaped member l3, and the cylindrical member H may be removed when it is desired to fill the receptacle II] with sugar or other similar granulated food. The cylindrical member H is engaged into place, the coneshaped member I3 is mounted upon the cylindrical member H in any one of its positions as desired, and finally the cover [2 is engaged in place. When the device is inverted the sugar will spill through the opening l6 into the cup [4.
When the receptacle is returned to its upright fall downwards upon the upper face of the cone-shaped bottom end I I of the cylindrical member I I. When the receptacle is again inverted the sugar which has been deposited upon the upper face of the coneshaped end I l will be dispensed around the cup [4 and through the opening I2. Simultaneously, another charge of sugar will be dispensed into the cup M. The operation continues in this fashion.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise construction herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and. modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is:-
