Abstract

An adjustable brim boonie hat for enabling a user to selectively configure it as a boonie hat or a tricorne style hat comprises a hat base having a crown section with three fastener base members attached thereto in distinct locations and a fastening surface disposed thereon and a bendable brim section with three fastener attaching members permanently attached thereto, each in a location that corresponds to one of said fastener base members. The adjustable brim boonie hat is generally similar to that of a convention conventional boonie hat. In addition to the boonie hat configuration, a tricorne style configuration is enabled through the positioning of the corresponding fastener members on the crown and brim. Accordingly, when the fastener attaching members are attached to their respective corresponding fastener base member, the brim of the adjustable brim boonie hat assumes the shape and style of a tricorne style hat.

Description

    BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • 1. Field of the Invention
  • This invention relates generally to head coverings and, more particularly, to boonie hat having a fastenable brim section that allows it to be worn in multiple configurations.
  • 2. Description of the Prior Art
  • The use and design of conventional boonie hats, typically defined by a design similar to a bucket hat but with a stiffer brim, is well known. While boonie hats are commonly worn by military personnel, they have become increasing popular in civilian fashion over time.
  • Tricorne hats, which in past times were very popular, share many design similarities with boonie hats. But because they are no longer part of contemporary styles, the use of tricorne hats is often limited to overt displays of patriotism or American Revolutionary time period styled events. Thus, there remains a need for an adjustable brim boonie hat which could be selectively configured as a conventional boonie hat and a tricorne style hat. It would be helpful if such an adjustable brim boonie hat included a crown with a plurality of fastening assemblies for receiving specific brim section. It would be additionally desirable for such an adjustable brim boonie hat to include a patch fastening surface to allow a user to customize the appearance of the crown.
  • The Applicant's invention described herein provides for an adjustable brim boonie hat adapted to allow a user to selectively position the brim in a hanging down configuration or a crown attached position. The primary aspects in Applicant's adjustable brim boonie hat are a hat base having a plurality of fastening assemblies and a fastening surface. When in operation, the adjustable brim boonie hat enables a user to wear it as a boonie style hat with the brim down or a tricorne hat with the brim up. As a result, many of the limitations imposed by prior art structures are removed.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • An adjustable brim boonie hat for enabling a user to selectively configure it as a boonie hat or a tricorne style hat. The adjustable brim boonie hat comprises a hat base having a crown section with three fastener base members attached thereto in distinct locations and a fastening surface disposed thereon and a bendable brim section with three fastener attaching members permanently attached thereto, each in a location that corresponds to one of said fastener base members. In terms size, shape and general style, the adjustable brim boonie hat is similar to that of a convention conventional boonie hat.
  • It is an object of this invention to provide an adjustable brim boonie hat which could be selectively configured as a conventional boonie hat and a tricorne style hat.
  • It is another object of this invention to provide an adjustable brim boonie hat that includes a crown with a plurality of fastening assemblies for receiving specific brim section.
  • It is yet another object of this invention to provide an adjustable brim boonie hat that includes a patch fastening surface to allow a user to customize the appearance of the crown.
  • These and other objects will be apparent to one of skill in the art.
  • BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • FIG. 1 is a top plan view of adjustable brim boonie hat built in accordance with the present invention in its tricorne configuration.
  • FIG. 2 is a side perspective view of adjustable brim boonie hat built in accordance with the present invention in its tricorne configuration.
  • FIG. 3 is a top plan view of adjustable brim boonie hat built in accordance with the present invention in its base configuration.
  • FIG. 4 is a side perspective view of adjustable brim boonie hat built in accordance with the present invention in its base configuration.
  • DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
  • Referring now to the drawings and in particular FIGS. 1, 2, 3, and 4, an adjustable brim boonie hat 10 is shown as a hat base having a crown section 20 and a brim section 30. In terms size, shape and general style, the crown section 20 is configured as the crown of a convention conventional boonie hat. The crown section 20 additionally includes three fastener base members 21 attached thereto and a fastening surface 22 disposed thereon. In the preferred embodiment, the fastener base members 21 define the male half of a conventional snap fastener assembly. Each of the fastener base members 21 are permanently attached to the crown section 20 and enable a female half of a conventional snap fastener to be received and fastened thereto.
  • The fastening surface 22 defines a hook portion of a conventional hook and loop fastener and is permanently attached to the crown section 20. It is contemplated that the fastening surface 22 enables the removable placement of customizing patches or materials to the crown section 20 of the adjustable brim boonie hat 10.
  • As with the crown section 20, the brim section 30 is configured as the brim of a convention conventional boonie hat in terms size, shape and general style. The brim section 30 additionally includes three fastener attaching members 31 permanently attached thereto, each in a location that corresponds to one of said fastener base members 21. In the preferred embodiment, the fastener attaching members 31 define the female half of a conventional snap fastener assembly. Accordingly, the fastener attaching members 31 enable the brim section 30 to be removably fastened to the crown section 20 at three discrete points. It is contemplated that the three discrete points are positioned on the adjustable brim boonie hat 10 such that when the fastener attaching members 31 are attached to their respective corresponding fastener base member 21, the adjustable brim boonie hat 10 assumes the shape and style of a tricorne style hat.
  • It is understood that the fastener base members 21 and corresponding fastener attaching members 31 may define either the male or female half of a conventional snap fastener, and the alternate conventional fasteners may be employed, including hook and loop fasteners as well as button and hole assemblies. It is further understood that the fastening surface 22 may alternatively define the loop portion of a hook and loop fastener or an alternate fastening means, such as a low tack or convention tack adhesive.
  • It is contemplated that in the preferred embodiment, the hat base of the adjustable brim boonie hat 10 is constructed of H20 Proof™ ECWCS material. In alternate embodiments, the hat base of the adjustable brim boonie hat 10 is constructed of conventional hat materials, such as natural or synthetic fabrics or plastics material.
  • In one embodiment, the adjustable brim boonie hat 10 includes an adjustable chin strap 11.
  • The instant invention has been shown and described herein in what is considered to be the most practical and preferred embodiment. It is recognized, however, that departures may be made therefrom within the scope of the invention and that obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art.
