Abstract
A hair fastening device for use in holding a user's hair. The hair fastening device includes an elongated band having a first end and a second end. The hair fastening device includes an opening on a first end thereof into which a user can insert his or her finger in order to hold the elongated band. The elongated band includes a first surface having fasteners thereon, and a second surface having fasteners on the second end thereof. The elongated band can be disposed in a loop and secured on a user's hair by engaging the fasteners on the first and second surfaces thereof. An attachment having a foam body can be removably secured to the elongated band to facilitate securement of the user's hair. In this way, the hair fastening device allows a user to adjustably secure his or her hair in a ponytail or similar hair style.
Description
- This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional Application No. 62/001,120 filed on May 21, 2014. The above identified patent application is herein incorporated by reference in its entirety to provide continuity of disclosure.
- The present invention relates to hair fastening devices. More specifically, the present invention provides a hair fastening device comprising an elongated band that can be formed into a loop by securing fasteners thereon in an overlapping configuration, wherein the elongated band further includes an opening at a first end thereof that allows the user to more easily hold the device while positioning the same on the user's hair.
- People with long hair often use hair clips and hair bands in order to secure their hair. This is particularly helpful when the person is exercising or is outside on a windy day in order to prevent the person's hair from blowing in the wind or to keep the hair away from the person's face. Hair bands generally comprise an elastic loop of material that can be stretched over the person's hair in order to secure the same. However, hair bands can snag the person's hair or can become tangled therewith, which can make the hairband difficult or painful to remove. Further, when a user is installing a hair band on their hair, the hair band can become stuck on the user's finger and the person may have difficulty adjusting the securement of the hair band on their hair. Some hair bands or clips may not be suitable with certain types of hair such as curly hair or dreadlocks. Thus, a device that can be used to more easily secure hair in a ponytail or similar hairstyle, and that is suitable for use with various types of hair is desired.
- In view of the disadvantages inherent in the known types of hair fastening devices now present in the prior art, the present invention provides a new hair fastening device wherein the same can be utilized for providing convenience for the user when securing the user's hair in a ponytail or other hairstyle requiring the user's hair to be secured or pulled away from the user's face.
- It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide a new and improved hair fastening device that has all of the advantages of the prior art and none of the disadvantages.
- It is another object of the present invention to provide a hair fastening device comprising a flexible, elongated band that can be wrapped around a user's hair and secured in a loop configuration.
- Another object of the present invention is to provide a hair fastening device comprising an elongated band having an opening thereon in which a user's finger can be positioned while adorning the hair fastening device.
- Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a hair fastening device comprising a fastener on a first surface of the elongated band and further including one or more fasteners on the second surface thereof, wherein the fasteners can be secured in an overlapping configuration in order to adjustably secure the device on a user's hair.
- A further object of the present invention is to provide an attachment comprising a foam body adapted to allow the hair fastening device to be firmly secured on thin or silky hair.
- Another object of the present invention is to provide a hair fastening device that may be readily fabricated from materials that permit relative economy and are commensurate with durability.
- Other objects, features and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.
- Although the characteristic features of this invention will be particularly pointed out in the claims, the invention itself and manner in which it may be made and used may be better understood after a review of the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like numeral annotations are provided throughout.

FIG. 4 shows a perspective view of the hair fastening device as secured on a user's hair. - Reference is made herein to the attached drawings. Like reference numerals are used throughout the drawings to depict like or similar elements of the hair fastening device. For the purposes of presenting a brief and clear description of the present invention, the preferred embodiment will be discussed as used for securing a user's hair in a desired position or style, such as in a ponytail. The figures are intended for representative purposes only and should not be considered to be limiting in any respect.
- Referring now to
FIGS. 1A and 1B , there are shown front and rear views of the hair fastening device of the present invention. Thehair fastening device 11 comprises anelongated band 12 that is composed of a flexible material. Theelongated band 12 can be composed of rubber or silicone, a stretchable fabric material, or leather, among others. Theelongated band 12 can be disposed in a loop around a user's hair and can be adjustably secured thereon in order to hold a user's hair in a ponytail, bun, or other similar hairstyle. Theelongated band 12 includes afirst end 13 opposite asecond end 14. Further, theelongated band 12 includes afirst surface 17 and asecond surface 18 on opposing sides thereof. - The
second end 14 of theelongated band 12 includes an opening 16 thereon. A user can insert his or her finger into the opening 16 in order to hold theelongated band 12 while positioning theelongated band 12 on the user's hair. This prevents the user's finger from becoming caught or tangled in the loop formed by theelongated band 12 while the user is attempting to secure his or her hair. Theopening 16 is shown as having an elliptical shape but may be provided in various other shapes or configurations suited to receive a user's fingers therein. - The
first surface 17 of theelongated band 12 includes one ormore fasteners 15 thereon. Preferably, thefasteners 15 are located centrally on theelongated band 12. Thefasteners 15 preferably include hook and loop fastening material, however, in alternate embodiments, thefasteners 15 include various other fasteners such as snaps, buttons, or magnets, among others. - The
second surface 18 of theelongated strap 12 also includes one ormore fasteners 19 thereon. Thefasteners 19 are located on thefirst end 13 of theelongated band 12. Preferably, thefasteners 19 comprise hook and loop fastening material adapted to mate with thefasteners 15 on thefirst surface 17. In alternate embodiments, thefasteners 19 on thesecond surface 18 may include buttons, snaps, or magnets among other types of fasteners. In this way, theelongated band 12 can be removably secured in a loop around a user's hair by overlapping thefastener 19 on thesecond surface 18 with afastener 15 on thefirst surface 17 of theelongated band 12. The user can adjust the fit or tightness of theelongated band 12 on the user's hair by means of thefasteners - Referring now to
FIGS. 2 and 3 , there are shown views of an attachment for use with the hair fastening device. Theattachment 21 comprises abody 24 that is preferably rectangular in configuration. Alower surface 22 of thebody 24 comprises afastener 23 thereon that is adapted to removably engage with thefasteners 19 on theelongated strap 12 of thehair fastening device 11. Preferably, thefastener 23 comprises hook and loop fastening material, but may include other types of fasteners in alternate embodiments. Thebody 24 is preferably composed of a foam or sponge material so that thebody 24 can be compressed and can contour around a user's hair. - In operation, the
fasteners 23 of theattachment 21 can be secured to thefasteners 19 on theelongated strap 12 so as to provide a cushioned surface for contacting the user's hair. Theattachment 21 helps to hold silky or thin hair so that thehair fastening device 11 remains in position on the user's hair. Preferably, theattachment 21 is shorter in length than thefastener 19 on theelongated strap 12 so that theattachment 21 does not utilize all of thefasteners 19 when positioned thereon. Thus, in some embodiments thefasteners 23 on theattachment 21 and thefasteners 19 on theelongated strap 12 are hook and loop fastening material, and the strip of hook and loop fastening material on theattachment 21 is shorter in length than the hook and loop fastening material on theelongated strap 12. In this way, theelongated strap 12 can be configured in a loop and secured using the fasteners thereon while theattachment 21 is also secured to the fasteners on theelongated strap 12. - Referring now to
FIG. 4 , there is shown a perspective view of the hair fastening device as secured on a user's hair. In operation, a user can hold theelongated band 12 by theopening 16 on thesecond end thereof 14. This provides a space for the user to hold theelongated band 12 without the risk of the user's finger becoming caught in theelongated band 12 as it is being positioned on the user's hair. Theelongated band 12 can be wrapped around a portion of the user's hair, such as a pony tail, and thefasteners fasteners elongated band 12 on the user's hair. Theelongated band 12 can be adjusted on the user's hair to provide the desired level of tightness so as to prevent thehair fastening device 11 from falling off of the user's hair. - It is therefore submitted that the instant invention has been shown and described in what is considered to be the most practical and preferred embodiments. It is recognized, however, that departures may be made within the scope of the invention and that obvious modifications will occur to a person skilled in the art. With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of the invention, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by the present invention.
- Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention.
Claims (9)
1. A hair fastening device, comprising:
an elongated band having a first end, a second end, a first surface, and a second surface;
an opening positioned on said first end of said elongated band;
one or more fasteners positioned on said first surface of said elongated band;
one or more fasteners positioned on said second surface of said elongated band on said second end thereof, wherein said one or more fasteners on said first surface can be secured to said one or more fasteners on said second surface in an overlapping configuration, such that said elongated band forms a loop.
2. The hair fastening device of claim 1 , wherein said elongated band is composed of a flexible material.
3. The hair fastening device of claim 1 , wherein said one or more fasteners on said first surface comprise hook and loop fastening material, and wherein said one or more fasteners on said second surface comprise hook and loop fastening material.
4. The hair fastening device of claim 1 , wherein:
said one or more fasteners positioned on said first surface comprise a first fastener disposed at a first position and a second fastener disposed at a second position;
said first position and said second position corresponding to different sizes of the loop.
5. The hair fastening device of claim 1 , wherein said one or more fasteners on said first surface comprise hook and loop fastening material and said one or more fasteners on said second surface comprise hook and loop fastening material.
6. The hair fastening device of claim 1 , wherein said elongated band is composed of leather.
7. The hair fastening device of claim 1 , further comprising an attachment removably securable to said one or more fasteners on said second surface of said elongated strap.
8. The hair fastening device of claim 7 , wherein said attachment comprises a rectangular construction and a fastener on a lower surface thereof.
9. The hair fastening device of claim 7 , wherein said attachment is composed of foam.
