Description
- This non-provisional application claims the benefit under 35 U.S.C. §119(e) of U.S. Provisional Application No. 61/842,388, filed Jul. 3, 2013, which is incorporated herein by reference.
- 1. Field of the Invention
- The present invention relates in general to clothing, and more particularly to a transferable garment for seamlessly transforming an existing bikini swimsuit to a tankini swimsuit.
- 2. Description of the Prior Art
- Certain types of clothing garments are designed for a specific purpose, such as athletics, exercising, recreation, and/or leisure. Swimwear is an item of clothing designed to be worn for swimming and/or sunbathing. Swimsuits may be skin-tight or loosely fitting and range from garments designed to preserve as much modesty as possible to garments designed to reveal as much of the body as possible. Additionally, swimwear has aesthetic appeal as well as function such as swimwear that is form-fitting, slenderizing female swimwear, or padding for accentuating a particular area of the body.
- Often within society, it is desirable to have women's swimwear and/or athletic wear accommodate both those women who may be self-conscious about body image, insecure, or modest as well as those who prefer to wear swimwear and/or athletic wear that is more revealing. It is also desirable to provide swimwear and/or athletic wear that is readily adjustable to form different swimwear, athletic wear, and/or bathing wear types, to allow for a variety of swimwear, athletic wear, and/or bathing wear options from the same clothing article. Despite all the current swimwear, athletic wear, and/or bathing wear that exists, there is absent for women a transferable garment, attachable to and also detachable from an existing bikini style swimsuit. Current swimwear does not have the ability to interchangeably transfer from a bikini style top to a tankini style top without a permanent change or use of any type of permanent fastener on the bikini style top. As a result, a need exists for a transferable garment for seamlessly transforming an existing bikini swimsuit to a tankini swimsuit without permanent attachment to the existing bikini style garment. Further there is a need for a transferable garment for seamlessly transforming an existing tank top garment (which does not cover a wearer's abdomen section) to a tank top style garment covering the wearer's abdomen section without permanent attachment to the existing tank top style garment.
- The present invention is an improved transferable garment designed to seamlessly transform an existing bikini swimsuit to a tankini swimsuit without permanent attachment. In view of the foregoing, a need exists for a transferable garment for seamlessly transforming an existing bikini swimsuit to a tankini swimsuit. Accordingly, various features, structures, characteristics, and method of manufacturing embodiments for the transferable garment are provided. In one embodiment, by way of example only, a transferable garment is provided. In one such embodiment, the transferable garment comprising a front side, a back side seamlessly connected to the front side, a torso portion having a top portion and a bottom portion, the front side and the back side forming the torso portion and the torso portion being sized to cover at least a portion of a wearer's torso, an upper front section of the front side, an upper rear section portion of the back side, a first securing mechanism seamlessly connected to the upper front section for securing the torso portion to necks straps of the existing bikini swimsuit, a second securing mechanism seamlessly connected to the upper rear section for securing the torso portion to back straps of the existing bikini swimsuit. The first securing mechanism and the second securing mechanism temporarily secures the torso portion to the existing bikini swimsuit. Related device and method of manufacturing embodiments are also disclosed and provide additional advantages.

FIG. 1A illustrates an exemplarytransferable garment 100 according to the present invention from a perspective front view andFIG. 1B illustrates thetransferable garment 100 according to the present invention from a perspective back view ofFIG. 1A view. Referring now to the invention in more detail, inFIG. 1A-B illustrates a transferable garment 100 (e.g., the transferable garment swimwear piece) addition having atop portion 19, abottom portion 21, and a midriff coverage 20 (covering all or a portion of the front portion of a wearer's midriff/torso), a back coverage 22 (covering all or a portion of the back portion of a wearer's midriff/torso), and acompression device 18 for applying pressure to the abdomen, ribs, buttocks, legs, and/or torso (e.g., a flexible/elastic type band) preferably coupled to, sewn and/or housed within material encircling the torso (e.g., midriff, stomach, and/or ribcage). In one embodiment, the flexible/elastic band 18 may be hemmed into both the top portion 19 (and/or the bottom portion 21) of the transferable garment and/or made by continuous weaving and/or sewing the flexible/elastic band 18 into thetransferable garment 100 and may be different in widths, thickness, color, texture, elasticity and so on, and/or be one of a variety of shapes and sizes according to a users preferences and/or requirements of thetransferable garment 100. Thecompression device 18 is hemmed with an elastic band (e.g. ⅜ inch) to provide improved fit and durability. - The compression device 18 (e.g., the flexible/elastic type band) may be a cord, string, strap, elastic band, and/or other type of compression and/or flexible material sewn, housed within, and/or attached to the
transferable garment 100 and capable of being adjustable to and/or compressing on a wearer's torso. In other words, thecompression device 18 provides a “mechanical spring” effect in that when the fabric of the transferable garment is elongated (equivalent to compressing a spring) as a user's body flexes, and as the fabric recovers (equivalent to the recoil of the spring) the recovery force from the fabric provides an additional benefit of having the garment fit snugly against the wearer's body. - The
elastic band 18 may be adjusted by the user while wearing thetransferable garment 100, and/or compressible to the torso while wearing thetransferable garment 100, thetransferable garment 100 having theelastic type band 18 at least partly and/or entirely encircling the relevant part of the upper portion of thetransferable garment 100, which anelastic type band 18 may be pulled by the wearer while wearing thetransferable garment 100 to adjust the width, circumference and/or the tightness/looseness around the wearer's ribcage by gathering material of the part on theelastic type band 18, wherein for part of the circumference of the relevant part the anelastic type band 18 is concealed under the material but emerges at a desired point and then passes again to the inside of thetransferable garment 100 accessible to the user while wearing thetransferable garment 100 so as to form an exposed and/or non-exposed anelastic type band 18 section on the inside and/or outside of thetransferable garment 100 and an elastic type band pull section on the inside and/or outside of thetransferable garment 100 accessible to the user while wearing thetransferable garment 100. - The
compression device 18 may be adjustable by the user for applying the pressure Thetransferable garment 100 including means provided at theelastic type band 18 section for holding thetransferable garment 100 in its tightened and/or loosened condition on theelastic type band 18 and the an elastic type band pull section (which may be apart of the flexible/elastic type band 18) may be used by the wearer for adjustment of the width of the relevant part while wearing thetransferable garment 100. - In one embodiment, the
compression device 18 automatically applies pressure to the wearers abdomen based on the design, size, and compression material housed within thetransferable garment 100. In other words, theelastic type band 18 of thetransferable garment 100 is of a fixed or un-fixed size, seamlessly connected, hemmed, woven, and/or designed as part of thetransferable garment 100 that automatically adjusts to the wearer's torso, abdomen, and/or ribcage based upon predesigned and/or manufactured specifications. - In one embodiment, the
transferable garment 100 includes at least one or more support strips 14 (e.g., upside down U and/or V shaped and/or one of a variety of other shaped strips 14) attached to a front, internaltop midsection 26 of thetransferable garment 100, and more specifically, attached to a front, internal top midsection 26 (the internaltop midsection 26 being made of and/or includes the compression device ‘flexible/elastic style band’ 18).
